Enigma Code:

The enigma code is used in films to hook the audiencein the film. It can be used in the opening scene of a film to help reel in the audience. The film may start with a puzzle, which is later solved.

We used the enigma code in our film – in the second scene, by showing clips from a montage. The second scene shows clips of the character exercising, with a series of different camera shots and camera angles and also, there is clips of the character getting dressed with a series of different camera shots and angles. This is used as a hook, as the audience will be anxious to find out what’s happening in the that particular scene.

Binary Opposition

The binary opposition is something that helps establish the relationship between two sets of characters e.g. bad and good. This helps us understand the difference between them; who the good person is and who the bad person is. This is crucial as we cannot see the perception of good without the perception of bad.

In our film we used binary opposition. We have students vs. a teacher. This is useful as it helps establish the relationship between the two making the film more interesting.

Equilibrium

The equilibrium is the casual transformation of the scenes. It may start of neutral, then slowly build tension, and at the end it will go back to the neutral state.

Our film’s structure challenges the conventions of films, as in the first two scenes we start off with a puzzle, rather than starting in a neutral state. In the middle of the film there is a series of clips from a montage which builds tension, this is used as a puzzle to make the audience feel confused and anxious about what is going on. The scene then goes into a neutral state in the third scene but, ends with a dramatic ending.
