Richard Vantieckle

What does he do and who inspires him?

He defines himself as a guardian of the legacy of surrealist painter Rene Magritte, as his work consists of urban architecture photography, conceptual photography or portrait and self-portrait

photography.

He focuses on the use of light and shadows such as night photography which sublimates the everyday by giving it a touch of mystery

What sort of work does he produce and what he thinks is important about portraying it?

Richard believes a successful photographer should tell a story and create an impact on the viewer he exclaimed “It must catch the eye and inspire them”

All of his works consists of a very particular theme, which is quite dark and grey, he seems to emphasis his photos very well doing so as he uses lighting and composition cleverly.

An interesting quote from him on how he thinks photography should be portrayed and obviously what he also practices.

“The aesthetic choices of composition, framing and lighting are involved in the development of what we want to show / tell

share. They are not the final goal of photography, just tools to achieve a visual message. “

Richard has a series of what he calls „box

head‟ which is why I chose him

specifically because it was a clear,

interesting narrative which was a

consistent theme and story.

His narrative

work is

inspired by the

mechanisms

of cinema

The meaning to the series and

my interpretation.

The series follows misadventures and

social degradation of this strange

character wearing a card board box for a

head.

What was he trying to say and portray

through these photos?
