100 YEARS OF ARMISTICE

Narrabri Public School participated in the 100 Year Centenary of the end of World War 1. Our school attended a very special Remembrance Assembly last Friday run by our leaders. Members of our school community attended and listened to the history behind the various elements and why it is so important for our students to know our involvement and history. On Sunday, our Captains Maeve Harris and Campbell Gourley were guest speakers at the town service. Maeve read a letter from her great, great grandfather Charles Frederick Bullen written to his future wife Lil. It was a very moving piece and demonstrates how difficult these times were. Charles returned from WW1 and later married Lil. Campbell Gourley read about a school teacher’s son Pierce Patrick Morrissey who displayed incredible bravery at Gallipoli but was killed in action there only a few months after his brave deeds. Many of our students also attended this service. Mr Richard Barry visited our school during the week to donate a copy of his fabulous book on the history of the soldiers from our area. Many of the soldiers on our honour roll are featured in this book.

NEWSLE T TERCANTEEN NEWS

Please check out the new Facebook page. The committee will be keeping you updated about what is happening at canteen. Our new Healthy Choices Menu is coming into place this week. It is a different set out so you will need to check what you can order and buy everyday and what is only a one day a week item.Things that are definietely gone are chicken burgers, chilli tenders, dinosnacks, goujons, icy mony triangle (TNT’s), jelly sticks, lollies and zing sticks.Things I will be running out of in the next week and when they are gone they won’t be replaced are mini pies, small sausage rolls, and salt & vinegar tenders. We were donated some oranges last week so orange wedges were our cheap treat. Any ideas for cheap, nu-tritious snack items will be given a hearing. Help me find something that works. Some more volunteers are needed to help us get the lunches out on time. While the new menu is full of great healthy food there is not a lot we can have pre-prepared so it will require more hands on to get the food out.Roster:Tuesday - HELP NEEDED, Wednesday - HELP NEEDEDThursday - HELP NEEDEDFriday - Lyn StanfordMonday - HELP NEEDED

EXCITING CHANGES AHEAD

A NEW CANTEEEN MENU IS ATTACHED TO THIS NEWSLETTER.The menu provides a range of foods for our students that are in line with the Department of Education’s Healthy Canteen initiative.

There is something for everyone and in this day and age where we understand the importance of healthy eating and the role our food intake has on assisting us to have a balanced lifestyle, the new menu is a great way for pro-moting this.

My Pet Snake GobiI always wished for a snake for my 10th birthday and I got one. I decided to call her Gobi. Gobi is a Spotted Python. She

is native to Australia and her species is found from Cape York all the way down to Byron Bay. We bought at Gobi in Tamworth and she was only 20cm long when I got her. Gobi is now 40-45cm long.

My dad brought Gobi into my classroom to visit and lots of people liked her, even Ms Stoltenberg. Gobi eats 1 week old mice and lives in a tank at home and she has many sticks to climb on.

Dad also talked about the bilbies he’s about to reintroduce back into the Pilliga Scrub, and my class were very excited to hear about them too.

At school, Gobi received lots of attention (and pats). I actually think she was exhausted afterwards.By Maddison Sparrow

CRAZY SOCK DAYLast Thursday students wore their CRAZY SOCKS to school to help raise money for

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).Students wore some wonderfully coloured socks and contributed to our fundraising.

Today a representative visited our school to collect the buckets of coins.Thank you everyone for supporting our fundraising for this wonderful charity.
