20th June 2017 Term 2 - Week 9

Welcome to Week 9! We seem to be getting busier and busier. Last week we saw our Year 1-2 and 3-6 Choir perform at the Eisteddfod. Congratulations to our 1-2 Choir who achieved a Highly Commended. We are still awaiting the results of the 3-6 Choir. We do know that both choirs performed beautifully and we are very proud of all these students. Well done.

Our students are at the OVLC Athletics Carnival today and we wish everyone a great day. We will post the results as soon as we know them all.

This Friday is the NRL Gala Day. This program is part of our sport program and is directly linked to our Sporting Outcomes and the development of Fundamental Movement skills. This is a whole school event and all students are expected to go. There are no staff remaining at school as all are needed to help out on the day. If you do have concerns, please contact the school and your child’s class teacher. Our students have worked hard for this day and are looking forward to a fun day. Could all notes be sent into the office by tomorrow so we can finalise buses. There is no cost to this program as it is covered under our Sporting Schools Grant.

This week our office staff begin their formal training for the new financial and operational system called LMBR. There will be times that the office is not fully maned and we ask that parents assist us in this by sending in notes for changes of routines. This week Mrs Stanton is at training on Wednesday and Thursday. Next week I will be at training on Tuesday and Mrs Stanton will be at training next Wednesday. We thank you for your support with this.

A couple of weeks ago I brought to the attention of parents, an on-line incident. Sadly I now find I need to let parents know of an APP, called “Music.Ly” the senior students are accessing. As an APP, I have been told that it is a good

one, however some students are using it as an avenue for cyber bullying. In addition, some students are also sending “chain messages” to students. As these often hold a dire consequence if you don’t follow the instructions, some students are finding these distressing. We are seeking parents support with this matter to have a conversation regarding appropriate behaviour on-line.

Don’t forget this Friday night is our P&C Disco. We hope to see lots of kids there. I’m sure Tania O’Connor could still use some helpers if you are available.

We still have our load of wood raffle going. We need everyone’s support to make this a success for our P&C. If you have tickets at home, please return sold books and the money by next Thursday. If you can sell another book, there are more available at the office.

Staff Wellbeing Week Initiative

Staff at NGPS have been reflecting on the serious matter of staff wellbeing and are looking out for and supporting one another in our wellbeing initiative. Yesterday staff wore their PJ’s to school, to the delight of students, and shared a beautiful lunch. Over the week they will also do something special for a colleague, reflect on their own wellbeing and have some fun getting to know each other and having lots of laughs. Students have also got involved by sending their teachers positive messages. It is wonderful to work with the amazing professionals at NGPS who do so much for our children and genuinely care about their work and each other. It is important to look after everyone’s wellbeing and I would like to thank the whole NGPS team for the awesome job they all do in the education of our children.

Have a great week!

Mrs D. Nicholls

What’s happening in Year 6 In Year 6 we have been working on 3D Obstacle courses to learn how to make and put together nets for 3D objects as well as devising a series of instructions using co-ordinates.

For English in Year 6 we have been reading and doing comprehension activities for the My Australia story series. For our last activity we created story maps. The main idea of a story map is to create a map that leads the reader through the book

New School Finance System Transition

Nana Glen Public School will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new bank account on 4 September 2017. To ensure a smooth transition, there will be changes to the way we accept payments from parents and carers.

1. Direct deposits: As of 25 August 2017, we will no longer accept direct deposits into our current school bank account as we prepare to close this account and transition to the new one. Any payments made using direct deposit after this date cannot be properly allocated to a student’s account in a timely manner. Please ensure you have made any outstanding direct deposits before 25 August 2017.

2. Cash and cheque payments: Between 30 August 2017 and 4 September 2017, we will also not be able to accept payments by cash or cheque as we prepare to close our current bank account and transition to the new one. Please ensure that you have made any outstanding cash or cheque payments before 30 August 2017. From 5 September 2017, cash and cheque payments and Parent Online Payments (POP) will be accepted as before.
