SONOR, proudly celebrating a tradition of over 135 years of excellence has announced the launch of the Limited Edition SQ² Stellar Spire kit to be introduced at Winter NAMM 2014. These limited SQ² drums will be offered in a Stage 3 configuration, 22“ x 18“ virgin bass drum, 10“ x 8“ and 12“ x 9“ toms, 16“ x 16“ floor tom and a 14“ x 6“ snare drum. The shells are handmade in Germany from 9-ply, hand-selected North American Maple, featuring the stunning air brushed Stellar Spire finish and black nickel-plated fittings. The snare drum features Die Cast hoops Made in Germany and uses SONOR’s Dual Glide snare strainer system.

On this project SONOR is working with the talents of MachArt, a two person air brush specialized lacquer company not too far away from the SONOR factory in Germany.The idea behind this kit was to replicate a high resolution picture, taken from

the Hubble space telescope in outer space, as a complete theme on a drum kit. The drum kit shows the Stellar Spire in the Eagle Nebula (catalogued as Messier 16 or M16, and as NGC 6611, and is also known as the Star Queen Nebula) in the constellation Serpens (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Nebula). This piece of art is hand painted over a piano black lacquered ground coat at MachArt in Germany and has been high gloss lacquered to perfection in the SONOR factory in Germany once the air brush job was done.The theme finds itself from the bird‘s eye view on the bass drum and in spectators view from right to left on the rest of the shells.These kits will be available in a very limited quantity and will be timeless and valuable collector pieces.

introduced to the extensive range:

MOUNTAIN BURLHighly figured with tight swirls and burl eyes, Mountain Burl is

the first of two stunning veneers. Veneers are selected, set by

hand and matched in-house by SONOR master craftsmen. Each

veneer sheet is one of a kind and makes each drum unique like

a personal fingerprint.

SMOKED LARCHOften used for high end furniture or interior design, the veneer sheets

are 'smoked' or fumed to modify the surface color. In addition to the

design, the physical properties of the wood are improved, too: it becomes

more elastic, less brittle and easier to work and process in the shell

manufacturing. A beautiful vertical veneer with spectacular contrast.

The instrument badges highlight laser cut mallet shaped logos, made out of the same veneer that is used on the snares itself. Due to the massive success with the actual Gavin Harrison Signature snare drums, SONOR chose to cooperate with HARDCASE UK again. Each One Of A Kind snare drum is delivered in a hard case, made to SONOR's specification.

The One Of A Kind edition features an extremely limited run of special designed snare drums with spectacular natural grown veneers and new shell designs. For each edition a certain tree has been selected with the goal in mind to only use the most exiting parts of the grain and set them to perfectly set vertical grain patterns. Vertical outside veneer grains have been introduced through SONOR in 1973, and have been a company trademark ever since. All veneers are sourced at specialized suppliers in Germany, which guarantee that these trees come from environment friendly sources and are exported/ imported legally.

Based on the success of the 2010 Beech Infinite Drums, SONOR is proud to announce the Birch Infinite Special Edition Shell Set, Made in Germany.The Birch Infinite drums feature hand‐selected premium Birch wood shells, combined with top shelf SONOR fittings ( such as T.A.R. mounting system, Tunesafe and Dual Glide snare system) and Remo USA heads.The kit will be available in a trio of vintage finishes - Vintage Amber, Vintage Azure and Vintage Onyx - all three featuring offset stain natural color vintage style hoops on bass drums.

The drums are available in a 4‐piece basic shell set containing a 22” x 18” bass drum, 10” x 8” and 12” x 9” tom toms and a 16” x 16” floor tom. A 14”x14” floor tom and a 14”x6” snare drum will be offered as upgrade components.

The Birch Infinite Drums are very versatile and easy to tune. The birch shells provide tremendous projection and a solid, distinctive warm tone. The smooth, balanced midrange is an excellent complement to the clarity of the highs and lows. The sound, the controlled sustain of Birch, combined with the striking look will make Birch Infinite drums a 'must have' for any live gig situation and recording sessions.

The Essential Force Series was designed for the advanced drummers who are not willing to sacrifice

their musical freedom. 6 ply Birchwood shells are the superb foundation for these kits, creating a

dynamic sound range. New for 2014: high gloss Cream White

The pinnacle of the Force Series, Select Force, was designed especially

for advanced and semi-professional drummers. The 7 ply Canadian Maple

shell offers uncompromisingly rich and warm sounds, highlight lower pitches

and provide balance in the mid-range and treble. Select Force Series drums are now offered in the new

Transparent Black Burst and Blue Galaxy Sparkle finishes.

The Ascent Series marks the revival of the famous Beech shell construction

that has been a trademark of SONOR throughout the decades. While developing
