I. Education Meeting: Monthly meeting with knowledgeable speakers on topics of interest to members and the community.

II. Family Support Group: Peer-led support group for families/friends of someone with

a mental illness.

• Mondays at 6:00 pm; average attendance = 5 • Tuesdays at 6:00 pm (except for second Tuesday of each month); average

attendance = 8 • Thursdays at 6:00 pm (except for second Thursday of each month); average

attendance = 4

III. NAMI Connection: Peer-led support groups for people with a mental illness.

• Mondays at 12:00 pm, Dorn VA Hospital (women only)

• Mondays at 6:00 pm, St. Stephens Lutheran Church

• Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, Trenholm Rd. United Methodist Church (except for the second

Tuesday of each month)

• Wednesdays at 3:00 pm, Dorn VA Hospital

• Thursdays at 6:00 pm, Trenholm Road United Methodist Church

• Thursdays at 6:00 pm, Redeemer Lutheran Church

IV. Family to Family: NAMI’s signature 12 week Peer-led educational course for family members.

NAMI Mid-Carolina sponsored four Family-to-Family classes in 2011 for the Midlands community; two in the spring and two in the fall. The Lexington class graduated 12 in the spring semester and 12 in the fall, while the V.A. class graduated 12 in the spring and 19 in the fall semester. **Recruitment has begun for the spring 2012 Family to Family classes. We have numerous family members signed up; two instructors confirmed and both venues confirmed for the spring courses. Courses are scheduled to begin February 28, 2012.

V. In Our Own Voice: An inspirational one-hour presentation in which two individuals share their triumphs and struggles with mental illness. NAMI Mid-Carolina offered a record number of IOOV presentations to the Midlands area in 2011. Mostly through the concentrated efforts of Caroline White, eighteen In Our Own Voice presentations were heard by audiences in our community. The audiences varied in size and venue, starting at numbers as low as 4 and topping out at one audience of 115 plus. Our 2011 venues are listed below:

VI. Provider Education: Peer-led, 5-week educational course for mental health professionals.

While Mid-Carolina did not sponsor a class in 2011 we did assist with the class sponsored by NAMI S.C. at Columbia Area Mental Health Center in Fall ’11. Mandy Medlock, Director of Operations, completed the 5 week course, spoke at the opening class and helped to coordinate the administrative tasks of the event. ***Coming in 2012…Consumer Education, monthly meeting with knowledgeable speakers on topics of interest to consumer members and the community.

***Coming in 2012… We are looking forward, with the help of NAMI South Carolina, to training in April of 2012.

opportunity possible; mostly through the assistance of our many volunteers to spread NAMI’s message of
