NAMI Family-to-Family Education ProgramThis nationally-acclaimed education program is a twelve-weekcourse designed for family members of persons living with aserious mental illness. Participants learn about schizophrenia,schizo-affective disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety andobsessive–compulsive disorder. They study brain biology andfunction, learn how to deal with crisis situations, understand howmedications work, and practice how to better communicate withtheir loved one. The course is taught by trained volunteers whosefamily members have been affected by these illnesses.The course is offered free of charge.Mondays January 9 to March 26Tuesdays March 6 to May 22Thursdays September 6 to November 15Mondays September 10 to November 26 (Calumet County)NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education ProgramThis ten-week education course focuses on recovery and is forany person with serious mental illness. Taught by peer mentorswho themselves are experienced with living successfully withmental illness, topics such as the major mental illnesses, relapseprevention planning, coping strategies, stigma and advocacy arecovered. The course is offered free of charge.Tuesdays January 24 to March 27Thursdays April 12 to June 14Tuesdays July 24 to Sept. 25Thursdays October 11 to Dec. 20SPARK (Supporting Parents as Advocates &Resources for Kids)Tailored to the specific needs of parents and caregivers of school-age children, SPARK offers eighteen hours of education on manydifferent disorders. The course is taught by professionals in thefield and is facilitated by peer volunteers. This course is offeredfree of charge. Educators who complete the course may apply forundergraduate or graduate credit through the Special EducationDept. at UW-Oshkosh (fees apply).Tue – Thu June 12,13 & 14Three Saturdays Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Oct. 27In Our Own VoiceThis recovery education presentation is an incredible stigma-bust-ing tool! Presented by consumers and appropriate for allaudiences, this program is a practical tool to educate and increaseawareness about the true nature of brain disorders. Presenterscover their experience from dark days to acceptance, treatment,coping strategies and successes, hopes and dreams. Powerfuland hopeful, this offering is appropriate for audiences from theclassroom to the boardroom. By AppointmentCrisis Intervention Team (CIT)A 40-hour course for patrol officers and other first-respondersdesigned to educate them about mental illness so that, in times ofcrisis, officers recognize the issues and utilize de-escalationtechniques, minimizing the potential for harm to be done to theconsumer, the officer, or the general public. Based on theMemphis Model of CIT, this is the best-practices program

recognized nationally for its effectiveness and positive outcomes.Mon – Fri March 19 to March 23Mon – Fri September 17 – 21Advanced CIT – Thu January 12Crisis Intervention Partners (CIP)Following the CIT format but offered in a shorter format, CIP is atwo-day workshop for individuals who work in professions relatedto crisis services (corrections officers, EMS personnel, firefighters, educators, hospital and emergency room personnel, etc.).Eight hours of education about various mental illnesses is offered,along with eight hours on the principles and practicalities ofde-escalation, role play and case scenario review. The fee is$100 to cover the cost of materials and supplies.Wed/Thu February 15 - 16Tue/Wed July 17 - 18Tue/Wed November 13 - 14NAMIWALKS for the Mind of AmericaJoin us on Saturday, October 6th, at Appleton’s beautifulMemorial Park for our annual walk event. Equal parts communityoutreach and fund raiser, this event is an incredible way to showyour support for individuals and families who live with mentalillness. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)Just as CPR training helps a layperson without medical trainingassist an individual following a heart attack, MHFA training helps alayperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis.This 12-hour course is of value to all adult audiences. It seeks toincrease public understanding of mental illness and improve publicresponse and treatment for those living with mental illness.Tuesdays February 7 - 282 Mon/2 Wed May 14 & 16 and May 21 & 232 Mon/2 Wed August 6, 8, 13, 15Thursdays October 25 - November 15Be WellLearn about healthy living in this free 12-week health and wellnessclass for adults who live with mental illness. This class combinesfacets of physical and mental health for a more holistic approachto wellbeing. Earn prizes, awards and certificates. Accomplishyour wellness goals through peer support. Join the walking clubas a bonus. Be healthy!Wednesdays January 18 - April 4Wednesdays August 1 - October 17REAP (Recovery, Education and Advocacy Program)The Recovery, Education and Advocacy Program is affectionatelyreferred to as Peer-to-Peer Part 2. We utilize the informationgained in Peer-to-Peer to create a recovery plan that goes beyondrelapse prevention.
