Oliver Strange is a British boy.

He has come to Botswana to look for his father, a herpetologist/zoologist.

His aunt was supposed to meet him at the airport in Zimbabwe, but she did not turn up.

At the train station Ollie meets Zinzi, a girl his own age, travelling with a python and a bush baby.

As instructed by the note left by his aunt, Oliver travels by train to Victoria Falls Station, from where he will catch a bus to Kasane – where his aunt will meet him.
