Research Achievements:
• Standardized propagation techniques for mass multiplication of SRF,
medicinal and aromatic plants
• Initiated rooting in shoot cuttings of Rosmarinus officinalis Linn. (An
exotic species of aromatic plant) through hormonal treatments
• Initiated early flowering and high seed setting in rosemary (Rosmarinus
officinalis Linn.) by the application of GA3 at the rate of 150 ppm
concentration in three doses.
• Plant height, collar, number of branches per plant and number of
leaves per plant should be greater consideration while carrying out genetic improvement through selection in progeny performances of
different provenance of khair (Acacia catechu).
• Different tree species affect associated agricultural crops in variable
manner and the choice of species and their planting distances is of greater significance in agroforestry system (Agri-silviculture). Under
these trials, subabool (Leucaena leucocephala Lam dewit.) and safed siris
(Albizzia procera) each at 8 meter while poplar (Populus deltoides Marsh)
and mulberry (Morus alba) each at 6 meter planting distances are best
suited for rain-fed agroforestry.
• Studies on growth and productivity evaluation of agri-horti-silviculture system of agroforestry at farmer’s field revealed that 45 percent
subabool (Leucaena leucocephala) trees to that of kinnow-mandarin
(Citrus nobilis x Citrus deliciosa) can be inter planted beneficially. The
planting geometry is capable of providing 20 to 25 percent higher monetary gains in comparison to mono cropping of kinnow-mandarin
orchard.
• Subabool (Leacaena leucocephala Lam dewit) and safeda (Eucalyptus
globulus) each at 2x1 meter planting densities are best suited for fuel
wood production early wastelands reclaimation .
• Performance of wheat (Triticum aestivum Linn.) and maize (Zea mays
Linn.) was evaluated under different spacing of poplar. Performance of poplar grown with wheat and maize showed direct relation to inter-row spacing of trees and was in the order of 8mx3m>
6mx4m>5mx5m>4mx6m. The negative influence of trees spacing on
wheat and maize growth and yield attributes was in the order of
8mx3m< 6mx4m<5mx5m<4mx6m.
• Forty two CPC’s of Dendrocalamus strictus were selected from the entire
range of distribution of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab for growth and foliage nutrients evaluation. Significantly higher growth and high
nutritional value were observed in SRB-1 followed by SRM-3 and SRK-2 selections, collected from the Sirmour district of Himachal
Pradesh.
• Yield and quality attributes of different cultivars of sugarcane under
poplar based rain fed agroforestry were evaluated using split-plot design. Sugarcane cultivar Co.7717 and Coj.64 proved superior for
cane yield and total soluble solids in comparison to Co.88 and Co.767.
• Response of different doses of aqueous extract of poplar (Populus
deltoides Marsh.) leaf was studied on germinating seeds and early
seedling growth in different cultivars of wheat and maize. The effect of
aqueous extracts was found inhibitive indicating a direct proportional relationship with increased application of leaf leachates for all the
parameter studied. Each cultivar showed maximum extent of phytotoxicity at 2 ml leachates application in comparison to untreated
(control).
• Micro-climatic parameters were studied under different planting
geometry of poplar and it was observed that atmospheric humidity was directly proportional to within row spacing of trees while air
temperature showed the inverse relation.
• Studies on nursery performance of selected clones of poplar (Populus
deltoides Marsh) revealed that volume index, leaf area index and
percent sprouting should be given weight age while carrying out
selections amongst clones.
• Studied plant diversity in Kandi region of Himachal Pradesh as it is important for in-situ conservation and deriving diversified uses of
valuable flora on a sustainable basis. 24 species of fiber and forage grasses, 14 of fodder legumes, 22 shrubs of medicinal value, 20 of
diversified fruits and 30 of valuable agroforestry trees have been
quantitatively documented from this study.
• Rejuvenated frost affected mango orchard of three cultivars viz. Mallika, Dashehari and Amarpali by applying different pruning
treatments. Significant results were observed pertaining to growth and fruit yield attributes in mango when the plants were treated with tip
pruning during the month of February-March.
• Tested and reported sunken nursery bed technology for raising early seed germination in vegetables, floriculture and other plants of
horticulture and forestry.
• Studied variability in herbage yield and essential oil content in
different genotypes of Cymbopogon flexuosus and Cymbopogon winterianus.
• Application of 120 Kg N/ha at 25x25 cm spacing produced significantly higher pedicel length and fresh weight of flowers in
Banafsa (Viola odarata) in Mid Hill Zones of Himachal Pradesh.
• Ghee-kanwar (Aloe vera Linn.) plants were grown in open field under
the treatment of seven different growing cultures (Treatments) in order
to investigate the most effective media for its mass proliferation. Significant increase in leaf yield and mass proliferation in ghee-kanwar
(Aloe vera Linn.) plants were recorded in media composed of soil,
vermicompost and sand culture in equal proportion in comparison to
control plot treatment (Only soil).
