IITH - Will you consider direct D2D without network support?
Presenter – Yes.
IITH – From India perspective: Public safety, Rural communication, TV band, etc. need to be considered. Does current framework support this? Perhaps no. Is Release 13 addressing these or should we address this in TSDSI?
IMC - Agrees.
Presenter – Rel 13 might address Rural comm.
CEWIT – Rel 13 covers D2D Relay. D2D started to support emergency communication during disaster without eNB support.
Chair – If two users are from different operators will D2D work?
Presenter – The UE should have these features enabled for cross-operator
SMSG – What is overlap between mission critical push to talk.
Presenter - Will get back on this.
CEWIT – Cross operator feature is available. Multi hop is not addressed and is important for Rural communication. This is the missing piece.
VC - Are there any other similar D2D SWIPs? We should be able to bring out all use cases and take the next step.
NOKIA - There are many. 3GPP only support public safety. Many features in our presentation are not in 3GPP.
IITH - When we say D2D, the devices must be fully capable to communicate with each other without network support.

SMSG - How is it different from multipath TCP?
Presenter – May be it solves and it may be sufficient.
IITH – MTCP needs to change the TCP at the end point. This requires changes only to lower layer, PDCP, RLC, etc. Ideally there should be no change at the UE.
Presenter - we will look at solution that has minimum impact on any existing elements.
Chair – We shall discuss related SWIP from IITH sent directly to the Chair.
Title: Traffic steering strategies for LTE-Wi-Fi aggregation
Status: Accepted
Proposer: [email protected]
Proposer Company: IITH
Creation time: Sent to Chair
Summary: The main reason for decrease in effective throughput of Wi-Fi network is contentions (and hence collisions) in the uplink. In LTE-WLAN aggregation, traffic steering strategies (TSS 3 & 4) address this issue by designating Wi-Fi to serve users only in the downlink. Since such system is free from contentions, it helps to improve the overall system throughput. Based on initial results obtained from NS-3 experiments, TSS 4, which is TCP aware, is the best among all traffic steering strategies considered in our study. It has increased the network capacity by 14% compared to TSS 3 which is TCP agnostic. If there are no TCP based flows, TSS 3 and TSS 4 are the same. Hence, we suggest that traffic steering algorithm running in TSL of IBX should be aware of application characteristics and Wi-Fi should be used only in downlink with appropriate control signaling in LTE-WLAN aggregation scenarios.
Chair- How is STCP different from what is proposed? This is used in LTE and SAE for carrying Control Plane signaling messages.
Presenter: Will get back on this.
SMSG: Current phones use Cubic TCP (used in current Android phones) and New Reno. Would appreciate if IITH and IMC explore.
IMC: We are not sure if it can be used. We will get back on this.

Chair - Moving this SWIP to SI10.
Presented.
VC - Does 3GPP has any such model?
Presenter – 3GPP has grid modelling for BTS.
VC – Can we use this for path loss modelling?
CEWIT – They have path loss modelling. It can be used for overlaying PICO over Macro BTS. What is the cell radius for DPP result.
Presenter – For a certain parameter, beta, we can accurately fit and model.
IITH – Various parameters and details are missing. We need to see all the parameters and details that can be used.
Presenter – Wanted to bring high level principle.
Nokia – How 3GPP simulation model and this model differs?
Presenter – PPP and DPP give statistical model and formula to analyze the network. We don’t have to rely on simulation to be able to say what happens in the network.
IMC – Statistical model cannot replace simulation…. Especially end-to-end.
Presenter – Agree.
SL – How well can your model predict Frequency Reuse?
IITH – This model helps predict the result of Simulation result. Helps to understand the HetNet behaviou.
CEWIT – This helps to get end to end result in short time. Agree with IMC’s comment.
IITH - We are interested in HetNet modeling (Macro plus Relay) for which we need a model, which are alternative and quick compared to 3GPP.

Presented.
Notes taken by VC.
IMC: From a standardization point of view, where are impacts or changes expected?
TN: Changes needed only at the Relay Node
IMC: How will handovers scenarios be handled?
TN: This is an item for study going forward. It is expected to be no different from eNB based HO.
IMC: How about impacts at the X2 interface? Wont that need to be considered?
TN: X2 interface impacts need to be studied. But it will have a lower priority compared to S1 interface
IIT-H:RN is just like any other UE which will share the same resources in the LTE band. So, how is QoS guaranteed between RN and eNB?
TN: Service Provider owns both the RN and eNB. Hence, it will be possible to configure the network in such a way that the RN has a guaranteed QoS and bandwidth. The benefits of RN
IIT-H: In D2D communication area, topics related to interference and co-existence are being discussed. Won’t similar challenges need to be handled in this solution.
TN: Yes, there are similar aspects that will need to be looked into.
IIT-H: Usage of terms like Virtualized can be misleading as its also used in other contexts like Cloud RAN. A suggestion is if this be reworded to avoid any confusion?
TN: The document shall be updated accordingly

SMSG - Why restrict to cellular application?
IITM – We can show WiFi 802.11ax in our Lab
CEWIT – Pico usually have dedicated fiber.
IITM – No need to lay fiber and use the spectrum
CEWIT – Is it SISO model?
IITM - Yes. MBS to PBS is one antenna. And vice-versa.
IMC – Do you assume FDD always?
IITM - This is abstract model without frame. PPP will always give pessimistic result.
Chair - Is this applicable to TDD?
Presenter - It can be modelled to TDD.

Company: RJIL
Chair - Sent to Chair and considered.
CEWIT - Prefer non-standalone (opportunistically use along with legacy)
Reliance – For completion sake we looked at both. No specific e.g.
IITH – need to identify channel, BW, synchronization, frame, etc. and prioritize.
RJIL – We need to look at regulatory inputs/band available. What type of devices, e.g. CPE? We include all inputs in Study Report with right place holders in the template to make progress for each of the areas we are discussing.
IITH – We need to start with some specific bandwidth to start the work.
RJIL –Minimum requirement is to have 1Gbps D/L. We can study the bandwidth.
CEWIT – Per use or cell?
RJIL – Per cell. Another way to calculate BW is look at MBMS and VoLTE application.
SMSG – Request reword “To study the bandwidth required per Gbps as D/L.”
RJIL - Acceptable.
RJIL - 1Gbps in the field.
IITH – cell edge, peak, etc.?
IMC – system throughput or at PHY?
CEWIT - Should we set a minimum BW and multiples of that.
RJIL – Cell average throughput, system throughput assuming MBMS.
Break for lunch. We reconvene at 2:10 pm, 8 Sept 2015.

Chair: Would you like to clarify if this is CN or RNES aspect?
IITH: There is overlap so decision can be deferred on this.
Chair: What is host neutrality and spectrum sharing?
RJIL: A host can own the equipment and operators can create a CELL. We don’t want multiple NIBs from different operators at the event location. Spectrum sharing is related to Operator 1 using Operator 2’s spectrum .

Comment: Sent to Chair.
There was discussion on dynamic channel switching based on Preamble detection.
IITH - Does WiFi changes channel based on background noise?
RJIL – It uses bg noise to switch channel. It is only during the boot up time. Now we want to do this dynamically.
IITH - It impacts 802.11
RJIL - We modify 802.11 or can do from the backend.
Vice-Chair – There is no detection support and can be left to implementation.
RJIL - This solution of channel switching is not implemented today because chipset needs to reboot today. These are practical issues. Solution space is suggestive.
CEWIT – Can we use DFS that is used for Radar detection/avoidance for this?
RJIL – It is a candidate.
SWIP 31 –
Chair: SWIP from RJIL includes contents of SWIP31. So SWIP31 is not discussed.
