Part A:

The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year

towards quality enhancement and the outcomes achieved by the end of the year

Plan of Action: The following initiatives were planned for the year 2010-2011 as a

part of continuous quality enhancement measures:

1. Introduction of semester system at under graduate level

2. Strengthening of autonomous colleges

3. Strengthening of continuous evaluation system of students

4. Introduction of project work in all PG courses

5. Introduction of Schools Concept

6. Entrance examination for Ph.D. admissions

7. Strengthening of the course work of Ph.D. programme

8. Improvement of employability skills of students

Outcomes Achieved

1. The semester system has been introduced in all the professional UG courses.

2. Reputed colleges have been encouraged to opt for autonomy in order to have

greater flexibility leading to up-liftment of academic standards and achieving

excellence.

3. The University has evolved measures to be taken to strengthen the continuous

evaluation system.

4. Due to certain operational limitations, the University has liberalized the project

work in all PG courses by making it optional.

5. Efforts were on to adopt ‘Schools Concept’ from the University side and its

introduction is going to be delayed as this matter rests with the State

Government

6. The University has declared the results of the Ph.D. Eligibility Test conducted

during 2009-10.

7. In order to strengthen the quality of research work, the University has made

three seminars as mandatory before the final submission of Ph.D. thesis.

8. The University has established Directorate of Placement Services as the central

placement cell to coordinate with various agencies and to organize job melas

on the campus.

Part B:

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

The University embarked on a series of initiatives during 2010-2011 in tune with

its goals and objectives.

As per the guidelines of the UGC the University has conducted Eligibility

Test on March 13, and May 21, 2010 for admission into Ph.D. in various

disciplines and the results have been declared on 6.7.2010. In all, 6801

candidates have appeared for Ph.D. eligibility test in 48 subjects and 1626

candidates have qualified.

Measures taken to achieve excellence in teaching

Department of Communication & Journalism: A stipulated 4-8 weeks

internship is mandatory for all the students.

Introduced two new papers namely 1. Development Management and

Research, and 2. Criminology and Correctional Administration in M.A.

Sociology PG programme.

A two months internship made compulsory for the students of M.Li.Sc.

Course.

PG Diploma in Digital Information Management has been introduced

at University College of Arts & Social Sciences.

Post Graduate Diploma in Culinary Arts: Osmania University has

introduced One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Culinary Arts to meet the

needs of the ever expanding culinary industry. This course is being

offered at the Culinary Academy of India, Begumpet, Hyderabad, which

is affiliated to Osmania University. This course fulfills a long felt need

for P.G. programme in Hospitality and Culinary field in the absence of

which many students from India go to abroad to pursue higher education.

Bachelor of Business Management & Technology (BBM & T) course

is being offered at RBVRR College for Women.

PG Diploma in Health Care courses: PG Diploma courses in

Healthcare are being offered by various collaborating hospitals and

medical institutes under affiliation to Osmania University during this

academic year.

Necessary preparations are on for offering M.Tech. (Textile Technology)

Part time program at University College of Technology and Post M.Sc.

Diploma in Medicinal Botany at PG College of Science, Saifabad.

In addition to the regular courses, the following courses have been started

at PGRRCDE:

1. B.Com. (Computers)

2. B.Sc. Animation & Multimedia

3. PG Diploma in Telecom Software

To achieve excellence in research

Many departments attracted grants from UGC under SAP.

Meritorious fellowships were given to many research scholars under the

UGC-Meritorious fellowships programme.

Some of the departments attracted funds from DST under FIST

programme.

Several of the faculty members attracted individual projects from various

funding agencies.

In addition to efforts made by the faculty in attracting funds to develop

the research infrastructure, the DST, Govt. of India has sanctioned Rs.

9.00 crores to the University under PURSE scheme as R&D incentive

grant.

To develop, enhance and improve the quality of human resources

Interdisciplinary subjects, project work and seminars are proposed in all

PG programmes

The compulsory add-on courses on Communicative English and Soft

Skills, and Personality Development in all the PG programmes

introduced in the preceding year continue to be offered.

To offer counselling support for positive mental health and well-being

The ‘Sahayam’, Counseling Centre on OU campus has continued its

efforts in providing psychological counselling to the needy students and

staff with the help of trained personnel.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:

Semester system has been introduced in all UG professional courses.

Digital Information Management course has been developed to offer one year

PG Diploma with the financial support from UGC under innovation scheme.

The syllabi of many courses have been updated in tune with the recent

developments.

Under the CBCS scheme, offering of the Interdisciplinary papers to all III and

IV semester students is ensuring cross disciplinary mobility and exposure to

subjects other than their regular subject of study.

The compulsory project work in IV semester ensures inculcation of scientific

temper towards research and pursuance of research as career.

Continuous evaluation of the students in all the semesters is done through

Internal Assessment Examinations, assignments, Seminars, Project Work etc.

The performance of a student is graded based on the credit score accumulated

at the end of each semester as Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and the

combined performance of a student in all the four semesters of the PG

programme is expressed as Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started:

1. All the teaching departments have developed about 100 course modules for

the Interdisciplinary Papers being offered at III and IV semester.

2. The DBT-sponsored programme - Interdisciplinary School of Life Sciences

for Advance Research and Education (ISLARE), is a unique programme that

involves interaction of Life Sciences departments including Botany, Zoology,

Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology.

3. Many PG Diploma and Certificate courses that have been offered under the

Health Courses take up students from many varied backgrounds

5. Examination reforms implemented:

Some of the reforms implemented during this year include:

Introduced Bar-Code system for simplification of examination processes.

Online submission and receiving of application forms.

Online printing of transcripts.

Introduced certain security features like microlining, barcoding and UV rays

identification, in the original degree certificates.

11. New collaborative research programmes:

The University continued to venture collaborative research with premier

institutions to share expertise within the University with those in a similar field to

increase the qualitative research output. During this academic year besides new

collaborations, the existing ones continued. The new research collaboration

ranged from within the university, national and international levels. Some of the

important linkages established are:

Osmania University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai

have entered into an MoU on 14-08-2010 for research, teaching, sharing of

faculty and enrichment.

The Department of Zoology, OU in collaboration with WWF-India State

Chapter and HMDA, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh initiated a research project on

Biodiversity of Hussain Sagar and its Management.

The Department of Zoology, OU in collaboration with WWF-India State

Chapter and APTDC, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh initiated research project on

Biodiversity Inventorisation of Araku Valley, Visakhapatnam district and

Nallamala Hills.

Centre for Plant & Molecular Biology continued to foster research

collaborations with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid

Tropics, Hyderabad; Directorate of Rice Research, Hyderabad; Directorate of

Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad; Nagarjuna Agriculture and Development

Institute, Hyderabad; IICT, Hyderabad; JK AgriGenetics, Hyderabad;

Barwale Foundation, Hyderabad; and Swarna Bharath Consortium Limited,

Hyderabad.

The Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic Diseases is continuing

collaborative research with CCMB, Hyderabad; NIMS, Hyderabad; Gandhi &

Osmania Hospitals, Hyderabad; Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad; Govt.

Maternity Hospital, Hyderabad; Durgabhai Deshmukh Hospital, Hyderabad;

and Care and Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad.

State-of-the-art central instrumentation facility is made available to the

researchers in the newly established Central Facilities for Research and

Development (CFRD) building on OU Campus.

The UGC has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 500.00 lakhs for establishment of

Advanced Centre for American Studies in Osmania University, and released

Rs. 300.00 lakhs during the year under report.

Influenced by the global discourse on Lifelong Learning and also due to socio

economic changes taking place within and outside the country, the

Government of India has put forward the idea of expanding the scope of the

continuing education and awareness programme. A sum of Rs. 15.00 lakhs

have been sanctioned and released by the UGC.

The UGC has sanctioned Rs. 6.10 crore for Educational Multi Media

Research Centre (EMMRC) for XI Plan period.

The Department of Lifelong Learning has organized Community

Empowerment Programmes in Rangapur village and adopted Parvathipuram

and Pratapasingaram villages by involving teachers and students. In

collaboration with other units of the University, the department has organised

several health camps at these villages.

The Institute of Genetics and Hospital for Genetic Diseases has conducted a

health camp for women at Borabanda slums on 8th March, 2011 in connection

with International Women’s Day.

Special programmes on the eve of World Environment Day, World Against

Child Labour Day, World Blood Donor’s Day have been organised by the

NSS Unit.

Training on upgrade version ‘NewGenLib’ software conducted by M/s Verus

professionals in Osmania University.

Access of Digital Documents: The University Library digitized rare

documents/manuscripts pertaining to various subjects and also provided

access to the Students/Research Scholars. The digitized documents are

uploaded in the server at Central Facilities Building, the same will be

available for the users through University Intranet.

The Directorate of Admissions makes centralized admissions into various courses

offered by the University and its affiliating institutions in a systematic and

transparent manner. The entire process of admissions is made through various

computerized modules.

As a part of computerization of examination process, the following have been

adopted at Examination Branch:

Publication of results on website

Common Degree certificate with in-built security features

Status checking of the student application forms for various requirements

All sections including spot valuation center are well connected through LAN

for smooth online transfer and sharing of information and data.

Verification of genuineness of various certificates

All documents issued by the Examination Branch have multiple security

features such as anti-copy, micro-line, micro-laser perforation, bar code etc.

The entire Examination Branch including Spot Valuation Centre is under

surveillance through the state-of-the-art equipment (cameras and cell phone

jammers)

Entry into Examination Branch is through access control system

26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:

Upgradation of class rooms with LCD facilities.

Improving the number of books in the University library as well as seminar

libraries at various departments and colleges to cater the needs of various

courses.

Strengthening of computer labs by replacing obsolete computers.

Establishment of modular labs to enhance the supportive facilities and

working atmosphere.

Addition of new equipment to the Health Centre.

Up keep of student amenities such as play grounds, gyms, swimming pool

Infrastructure Development Grant:

The Departments of Science and Engineering have continued to receive grant for

strengthening of Infrastructure in terms of power supply, water supply, safety

equipment, laboratory working tables etc. including the components of research at

PG level under UGC-BSR Scheme.

27. Technology up gradation:

As a part of technology up gradation programme, the University has established

its own web server, mail server, database server and domain server. Under the

NME-ICT programme the University has procured 1.0 Gbps Internet bandwidth

connectivity through BSNL for distribution to all the departments in the campus.

The University continues to evolve a centralized system for procurement of

computers and its peripherals for all the colleges/departments including the

constituent colleges of Osmania University.

Through INFLIBNET access to full text of articles of several e-journals and e-

books for the faculty, research scholars, and students of the University. Many of

the teachers, research scholars and students have expressed utmost satisfaction of

the e-journals programme and are benefiting to a great extent. The University

also facilitates hosting information pertaining to Research publications of the

University teaching staff of various colleges/departments under “OU Research

Publications’ link through www.osmania.ac.in.

In addition to the existing, several applications were pressed into operation for an

effective use of IT infrastructure.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:

The University laid optical fiber networking connecting the entire campus.

The University has excellent computational and connectivity facility backed

by high-speed internet connectivity of 1 Gbps through BSNL.

Many departments in the campus have well-equipped computer labs with

networking facility.

Almost all the departments have provided access to the Internet to the

students, research scholars and teachers round the clock.

University College of Engineering has been adopted as remote center for

distance education programs offered under C-DEEP by IIT Mumbai.

Some of the departments have established separate computer labs with

networking facility for the usage of students

Training programmes for both teachers and non-teaching staff on usage of

computers were organized by the Academic Staff College.

Alumni of 94 years old Osmania University have distinguished themselves at the

national and international levels. They have spread far and wide globally and done

their Alma Mater proud by excelling themselves as academicians, administrators,

In order to make the organization more vibrant and dynamic, a series of activities

have been planned and executed. Some of them were inaugural functions, annual

lecture series, foundation and alumni day celebrations etc... Several NRI alumni

have visited the University with various proposals and looking forward to large

scale funding from them for various development activities.

31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:

Regular interaction between parents and teachers does take place in some

departments and colleges for specific purposes based on academic and

administrative needs.

32. Health services:

The Health Centre offers free medical treatment to students, staff and their

families. There are specialists attached to the Centre who offer expert medical

advice. Staff and students receive only out-patient treatment at this Centre. In

order to keep pace with the latest developments in the field of Medicine, the

University has taken below mentioned steps:

Upgrading the pathological laboratory facilities by purchasing:

- equipment such as Olympus Microscope, Digital Colorimeter, Hot Air

Over, Centrifuge machine, and

- Semi Auto Analyzer.

Latest Philips Electro Cardiogram (ECG) machine Page Writer I has been

purchased and being utilised.

In order to provide safe drinking water to the patents, R.O. System with water

cooler has been installed.

33. Performance in sports activities:

During the year 2010-11 sports persons at Inter University level achieved good

results at South Zone and All India Inter University Sports and Games. The

following are the brief achievements of sports persons:

Mr. K Ramesh has won the Gold Medal in 1500M run after 30 years in the

All India Inter University Athletics Meet held at A.N. University, Guntur and

was selected to represent in the World University Games to be held in China.

Kum. Monica has won the Silver Medal in 200M in the All India Inter

University Athletics Meet held at A.N. University, Guntur. She represented

OU in the World Youth Athletics Championships held at Italy.

Mr. Sumeeth Reddy has been selected to represent India in the World

University Games held at China and World Association Youth Badminton

Championship held at Malaysia.

Medal, Gymnastics held at Punjabi University, Patiala during 01-05

November, 2010

Ch. Kapeeshwarlu has secured Bronze Medal, Best Physique competitions

held at Kannur University during 11-12 November, 2010.

Y. Raghavendra Goud has bagged Silver Medal for 90kg Power Lifting held

at Kannur University during 15-17 November, 2010.

The University team have attained title of South Zone Winners for Tennis

(Men) competitions held at Andhra University during December 2010.

Syed Mohd Zamin Naqvi has secured Gold Medal for 81 kg Judo (Men) in

the competitions held at Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune, 10-13 December,

2010.

The team consisting of Ram Arjun Anand, K. Sandeep, M. Phaneendra and

V. Srikanth has snared Runners-up title for Fencing (Men) competitions held

at University of Jammu, 14-16 December, 2010.

Vivek Kumar Goud, 63.68kg Gold Medal and Venkateshwarlu, 74.80kg

Bronze Medal secured at Taekwondo competitions, Punjabi University, 18-21

January, 2011.

Kontu Jyothi won Silver Medal (30Mts) and Bronze Medal (70Mts) in the

Archery competitions held at Kurukshetra University, 29th January and 2nd

February, 2011.

Osmania Team secured III Place in All India Inter University Cricket

tournaments held at Chhatrapathi Sahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.

Osmania Team stood at winners position in the South Zone Cricket

World University Games at Shenzhen, China.

34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:

The University has a unique and innovative scheme of encouraging outstanding

sportsmen who bring laurels to the University, State and the Country. Meritorious

Sports Persons are given Cash Awards every year for their achievements. For

players who have secured places in the All India Inter University Tournaments,

the following are the Cash Awards

SECOND PLACE : Rs. 3, 000/-

THIRD PLACE : Rs. 2, 000/-

For Inter College Tournaments in Men & Women, the following incentives are

given to the first 3 Championship Colleges.

In addition to the above cash awards, the players/teams are given one track suit,

one (pair of shoes, one blazer with crest (for each player), such other required

sports material and playing kits.

The University also encourages players who have the unique distinction of

representing the Country abroad by giving them matching grant for their travel.

Apart from the Cash Award Incentives, the players are eligible to seek admission

under Sports Category in courses they wish to pursue. They are provided with

sports kit and cash awards by the respective colleges. Proficient players are also

eligible for fee waiver in certain colleges.

35. Student achievements and awards:

of Genetics have received the Best paper of the year (2010) award for their

research paper entitled ‘Association of cyp2d6*4 polymorphism with acute

leukemia’ published in Journal of Cell and Tissue Research, Vol.10 (2) 2201-

2205 (2010).

G. Manjula, K. Sailaja, C. Anuradha, and V. Sugunakar of the Department of

Genetics have received Best Poster Award (2010) for their presentation on

‘Analysis of ATM gene H1380Y Polymorphism in the development of

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia’ during Second World Congress on Cancer held

during September 3-5th 2010 at Kottayam.

Ten students of the Department of Genetics have received CSIR & UGC-JRF

From the Department of Biochemistry, 5 students in GATE, 2 in UGC NET,

and 4 in CSIR have been qualified.

J. Nalini of the Department of Biochemistry participated in International

Conference in Austria 2010.

G. Raghu, Department of Biochemistry visited France through “INDO-

French Project” 2010.

Ten students of the Department of Electrical Engineering got respectable

ranks in GATE 2011.

M.A. (Pre & Final) year students of Urdu participated in Essay writing and

Debate in Urdu and won1st and 2nd Prize.

M.A. (Pre & Final) year students of Urdu participated in Antakshiri and won

1st Prize.

Fifteen students of Chemistry have been selected for CSIR-UGC JRF and 10

Ms. Mounika, B.E. 1 year student of Electronics & Communication

Engineering won both Gold and Silver medals in Inter College Athletic Meet,

National Junior Athletic Championship, and All India Inter University

Athletic Tournament.

J. Aditya Kumar, K. Naresh and M. Satish Kumar of Electronics &

Communication Engineering jointly undertaken project work titled “VHDL

Modeling and Implementation of Data Link protocols”. He was selected for

Best project Award sponsored by 1980 batch.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit:

Sahayam, the Counselling Centre, on OU Campus serves the university

community and provides psychological counselling services, trainings and

awareness programs on various issues related to positive mental health and well-

being. The services provided at Sahayam have included psychological

counseling, psycho-education, providing outreach services and educating the

university community about management of psychological issues as needed.

Student Advisory Council:

All colleges/Departments have Student Advisory Councils with a faculty member

heading it as a Student Advisor. The Student Advisory Council will consist of

some nominated student-members representing all the classes. The student-

members are nominated on the basis of their merit in their respective classes.

The Student Advisor will help students overcome their initial problems starting

from the time of their entry to subsequent career planning. The Advisory Council

offers help to students on a variety of issues and practical problems related to

academic, administrative, disciplinary, personal, social or emotional. All the

members of the Council shall work under the code of confidentiality. The

counselling will be either at individual or group level on issues such as stress

management, confidence building, creative expression, and many more as

required from time to time. The council also arrange workshops, presentations

and some interactive sessions to help the students with job hunting procedures and

provide information about the career opportunities. The council ensures smooth

flow of information from and to the administration and the department. The

council is also responsible for the maintenance of cordial and harmonious

relationship between the staff and students in the department/college.

Lady Counsellor:

Woman-faculty members are entrusted with counselling responsibilities for girl

students at any time during the college hours. At least one counselor faculty will

be available in the office to guide the students through the problems, if any.

Counselling for girl students provides an opportunity to talk to some experienced

and friendly lady faculty about some of their issues that crop up during their stay

in the college campus. The counsellor allows them to focus on difficulties which

may be interfering with their personal and academic development.

All the colleges/Departments are provided with grievance boxes where the

students can drop their grievances if any. The student’s councilors shall monitor

and attend to these grievances on weekly basis.

Mentoring System:

The University has introduced Mentoring System from this year. Each faculty

member is allotted some students. The teachers arrange for meetings of the

students allotted to them, once in fifteen days and discuss about their problems

and advise them on all academic matters.

The “Employment and Guidance Bureau” of the university advises the students

about careers to pursue. It also arranges meetings with entrepreneurs to explore

placement opportunities for students. There are also Placement Officers in almost

all the colleges.

37. Placement services provided to students:

Osmania University has taken several initiatives and introduced several

innovative programmes. Osmania University has established a Directorate of

Placement Services with the objective to facilitate the students of Campus,

Constituent and Affiliated Colleges with the employment related information as

per their requirement and qualifications. In this endeavor the Directorate will

advise all the Colleges under its jurisdiction to register with this Office and

coordinate the placement activities of various companies, institutes and

organizations.

The University College of Engineering has been making almost 100% placements

at graduation level excluding the students who wish to pursue their studies abroad

or pursue further studies in India. The Department of Business Management has

registered 80% placements followed by other faculties in Campus and Constituent

Colleges registered 60-70% placements which includes Campus placements, Off-

Campus placements, self-employed, teaching and research, various governmental

institutions.

The University takes pride in mentioning that a large number of students of

University College of Engineering have been selected in campus placements.

More than 40 companies visited the campus and 400 offer letters have been

issued. For the batch 2011, the campus hiring began in July 2010. A new record

was created on the Campus Placements front on December 22nd, 2010 by four

major IT giants Infosys, Wipro Technologies, Cognizant and Accenture. These

four IT companies have participated in an eleven day Campus Recruitment Drive

called “Premium Company Recruitment Drive” organised by the Placement

Office, OUCE during December 12 to 22, 2010. All these companies put together

have made 478 job offers to the Final Year students of BE, ME & MCA courses

of the college out of which 390 job offers were accepted by the students. As on

February 14, 2011, total number of job offers made by several Core and IT

companies at OUCE was 611.

The following steps were taken to provide better services:

Launched a web-based portal for online placements.

Series of meetings held with APITCO and senior consultants in IT industry to

explore the possibilities of capacity building and career development and also

to organize mega placements.

Imparting skill sets for enhancing employability skills.

Periodic Training Programmes on the usage of computers in day to day

administration for Junior Assistants and Senior Assistants have been

organized.

Two training programme for Accountants is organized on financial and

Journals through SCOPUS database. Osmania University was one of the 30

Universities in the country which has been selected under the scheme during

2010-11. The University was sanctioned an amount of Rs. 3.00 crores per

year for a period of three years.

The University Colleges of Technology and Engineering have been conferred

‘Autonomy’ by the UGC. This facilitated securing of funding for the

institutions under TEQIP Phase II.

Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman, University Grants Commission

inaugurated the new building of Central Facilities for Research and

Development on August 17, 2010. The Central Facilities is offering a host of

facilities viz., scientific laboratories, e-class rooms etc. In addition to these

facilities, the Central Facilities has computational lab with many software

packages for statistical analysis, mathematical modeling and chemical

analysis.

In pursuance of recommendations of UGC, Osmania University has renamed

the Centre for Adult Continuing Education and Extension as Centre for Life

Long Learning. The UGC has sanctioned Rs. 15.00 lakhs towards the

establishment of this Centre.

A one day ‘Training of Trainers’ programme on ‘Anti Ragging’ measures to

be adopted by the colleges under Osmania University was held on 30-07-

2010 during the academic year 2010-11. This was jointly organised by

Directorate of Academic Audit and Sahayam – Psychological Counselling

Centre, OU.

The 78th Annual Convocation of Osmania University was held on August 17,

2010. Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman, UGC delivered the Convocation

Address.

A nine member UGC Expert Committee headed by Prof. H.A. Ranganath,

Director, NAAC, Bangalore visited the University during November 8-11,

2010 to finalise the Action Plan and budget under the scheme, University

with Potential for Excellence (UPE). The University was one among the ten

universities shortlisted by the Standing Committee of UGC for consideration

under UPE during XI Plan.

A three day international conference on ‘Climate Change: Perspectives and

Projections – A Systems Approach’ was organised during December 9-11,

2010. Nearly 500 delegates – academicians, scientists and policy makers

from India and abroad participated in the conference.

Part C:

PLANS OF OSMANIA UNIVERSITY FOR THE NEXT YEAR

1. To review the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

As part of ongoing academic and administrative reforms stipulated, the University

has introduced CBCS with effect from the academic year 2009-10. After

experiencing some challenges in implementing it, changes are to be made into the

existing system.

2. To strengthen the continuous evaluation system of students

The university is planning to strengthen the continuous evaluation of the students

by increasing the weightage of marks given for continuous evaluation from the

present 20% to 30%. Further, measures such as seminars are introduced to

enhance the quality of continuous evaluation.

3. To strengthen the of PG research

In view of the substantial grants received from the UGC under Basic Scientific

Research (BSR) scheme for strengthening basic infrastructure, the Departments of

Science and Engineering need to improve research temperament at PG level.

4. Steps to increase the number of Autonomous Colleges

Osmania University is one of the few universities over-burdened with

administrative work of affiliating and managing of a large number of affiliated

colleges. One way of easing such difficulties is to encourage colleges to obtain

autonomy status. In view of this, the University should take necessary steps to

strengthen the system of autonomy.

5. To introduce new courses

Offering new courses is one of the healthy practices in the university system. It is

suggested to evolve course curricula keeping in view of the resurgence of

emerging areas and local needs.

6. To improve the research grants

The faculty and other research community are to be encouraged to submit

research proposals to various funding agencies.

7. MoUs to forge stronger links and strategic partnerships

It is advised to ink MoUs with reputed institutes/industries of national and

international acclaim for collaborative teaching and research.

8. To make institutional efforts to attain coveted status of UPE

Since the University has already submitted the preliminary document to compete

for the award of University with Potential for Excellence, a coveted scheme of

UGC under XI Plan, further steps need to be taken on colossal basis.
