First of all, the Hungarian Sting Mailing List and Fan Club (MSL) welcomes you to Budapest, Hungary and we really appreciate that you have accepted this very special present of ours, Fanbook 2004.

You may remember us, because four years ago on 11th June 2000 we also gave a similar book to your hands, containing a lot of messages of your fans from all over the world. We hope you found it interesting and enjoyable to read.

With the help of a very good friend of mine Attis, who is the webmaster of www.sting.hu, we started to collect letters and photos to you again via the Internet. During our three-month campaign, Send Your Love To Sting! we received 200 messages and 78 pictures altogether. Fans from 5 continents and 37 countries (from Argentina to Yugoslavia) wanted to express their feelings about your wonderful music and lyrics. Being a Hungarian citizen, I am really proud of the fact that more than one third of all messages were written by fellow fans from Hungary. Interestingly enough, the youngest person who wrote to you is 11 years old and the oldest one is 70 years old. Every message was printed without any modifications, so please excuse us for any mistakes.

In fact, I’m a huge fan of yours since I was 13. I think your music and personality made my life happier and more colourful. I also discovered the fantastic and exciting world of contemporary jazz through your and your musicians’ works. I’m personally grateful to you, so I would like to pay tribute to your career by creating this Fanbook, which couldn’t have been completed without the support of the most loyal fans of course. The message is common in every single letter of this book:

You send your love to us through your music, and now we would like to send our love back to you through this Fanbook.

This may sound trite and cliche, but it seems that I connect to your songs in a special way, almost like I know them before I hear them. "A Thousand Years" sounded so familiar to me, even though I knew that I was hearing it for the first time. dear sir sting, my father was a poet, and he once wrote a poem named "a soward for jesus, a conscience for judath, and a master for pilatos, and may peace be on earth", a long name i know, but in arabic it doesnt sound that long, it was his equation of the right earth. i guess you sir have fulfilled these requirements in order to be clean of a sin.which brings me to your "i found the cure for the countrie's ills", i always found it a bit childish when the artists talked about love as a healing device, i always looked up for nation's, religion's, or society's rules and laws as the way out of our misory, and loosing the track of that is what made us reach this point of inhumanity, but lately i am seeing that all the religions or societys or nations have been defragmented into small pieces that no longer have a meaning (and i dont know whos behind all of this), and we reached a point where nothing shines meaning from within but love. its like when your in college studying engineering this means that you have passed succesfuly your high school, but what if your haigh school degree was a fake, this requires us to give every and each guy in the university a test in the fourth grade's math and history books, and this is the case here i think, relations and soceity nets and countrys have skipped that silly test in the !forth grade which is love, and for that they should be sent back there to catch up with the young lovers once again....this way i realy find love our own salvation but in the same time its realy scary when nothing can indicate truth but your heart, when nothing holds as evidence but what lies in the vacinity of your own body, its a sign of how torn apart humans have become, we have reached the most primative evidence of our existance, once again im not against romantic arts, actually i see salvation through them, but its just that i know that the line is declining rapidly down, sorry for my dark thoughts, i am a lover myself, i play music with and for love, but its only when i look to my small sister or when i imagine whats it like for my kids....or when i see myself roped to a tree and the whole village is on fire.....jesus i am dark.....thanks again sir for not getting tired...

As I sit writing this at one o'clock on a Monday morning (instead of finishing my murderous backlog of homework) I'm wondering if I'm really ' qualified ' enough to write a letter to you. While many of your fans have been listening to you since the Police, I became a fan of yours ever since' last week. Your enigmatic performance (and that spiffy hurdy-gurdy!) at the 2004 Oscars hooked me to your music, and made the ensuing days a flurry of excitement as I tried to get my hands on every single album of yours in record time.

Sting, your ability to vividly invoke the senses through your songs is incredible. This afternoon I was listening to 'Fill Her Up, ' and you sang in your soft, smoky voice, 'The evening sun is slanting through the pine trees real pretty/It's like I walked into a glade of heaven. ' Just then I noticed the sunlight soaking through my window ' the first real sunlight after months of winter ' and a feeling of warmth and contentment washed over me. It was such a beautiful experience, Sting, and I can only imagine the treasures I will uncover as I listen to more of your priceless music. It's going to be a great adventure.

I'm Szilvi, 22, from Budapest, Hungary. It was only yesterday that I recognized you'll come to Budapest this summer again and since then I'M SO HAPPY THAT I CAN'T STOP CRYING ;x) I think me and my friends will also go out to Vienna to see your show.

I SAT DOWN AND WROTE THIS LETTER to tell you that the first concert I've ever been to was your former Brand New Day concert held in Budapest, 2000. Your concert was held on Sunday, a stuffy summer evening in June, and as that was my very last year in secondary school those days I was about to sit my final exams. The oral exams were set the next Monday and Tuesday, but as me and my friend, Luca, wanted to go to the show, FOR MANY LONELY, SLEEPLESS NIGTHS WE HAD A QUESTION THAT WAS PREYING ON OUR MIND FOR SOME TIME 'How should we ask our class master to let us take that exam on Tuesday instead of Monday'. We knew he wouldn't have been pleased with the reason 'JE SAIS QUE C'EST DUR, MAIS IL FAUT SE FAIRE AU CHANGEMENT as we'd like to go and see Sting's show, so please let us take our exam on Tuesday'. We finally came up with the idea that both of us had some kinda family gathering on Sunday, so it was impossible for us to take those exams on Monday. Well, that worked o!ut pretty well... :)

MANY YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE THOSE SUMMER DAYS but ALL THIS TIME I found my composure in your music. YOU STILL TOUCH ME... Dear Sting, I've never written in one of these fan books before and I'm not quit sure where to start or what to say. I guess I can start by telling you that we share the same birthday! You might remember me from the Today Show concert last October. I gave you a birthday card through the window of your cab. (I normally don't act that way-running down the street waving a birthday card in my hand-It must have been some sight to see for all the rest of people standing on the street watching me. Oy! I'm actually very reserved and quiet, but when opportunity knocks, I answer) Anyway, I wanted to tell you that meeting you that day meant the world to me and was the greatest birthday present I have ever received. And to think, I wasn't even going to go to NYC that day because I had to catch a 4:30am train out, but I am glad I did. I also wanted to tell you that one particular concert of yours changed my life in a way I never thought possible. I saw you for the first time at the Royal Albert Hall 4 years ago during the BND tour. I was studying in London for a semester, which was a most life changing event. It was my first time away from home for that amount of time (3 months) I was very home sick and was very insecure with myself. I lived with 6 other girls in my flat and we really didn't get along. They made me feel bad about myself because I didn't smoke or binge drink or go out to bars and clubs and party every weekend like they did. Instead, I went to museums, plays, parks, tourists attractions, and really soaked up what London had to offer culturally. I was the first one to sleep and the first one up in the morning. They would talk about me behind my back and make fun of me because I did different things than they did. Even though I wanted to fit it with them (In hindsight, I realize that was ridiculus)I new that I was in London experiencing this for myself and no one else. You were singing Englishman in New York. You came to the line "Be yourself no matter what they say". You sang it over and over, and then the audience starting singing with you. I closed my eyes and started crying. In that moment I knew that what I was doing all along was o.k.. I realized that doing what you don't want to do, just to fit in with the "popular" crowd was a waste of time and you need to do what makes you happy. If people don't like you for it, then they weren't meant to be your friend in the first place. My self confidence level rose ten fold in that one moment and it is still as high as it has ever been. I still remember that day as if it were yesterday and whenever I hear that line, a tear always wells in my eye. I am sure that you will receive many e-mails like mine, but I am glad that I had the opportunity to express my thoughts and tell you personally how much you

have meant to my life. I am hoping to see you in concert over the summer in America (Though with tight finaces, a busy work schedule and very busy Ticket Master telephone lines - I'm trying for Jones Beach, hint, hint :-)-I'm keeping my fingers crossed)Anyway, I would like to send MY love to you and your tour band. Brother in passion,It was at a concert in Brussel/belgiumthat we had eye contact back stage after I did an interview with Vinnie C. for the Belgian Drum Club.I remember you were sitting next to the other band members and you guys looked soo tired!Well I didn't have the balls to walk up to you and to say how much I enjoyed the concert,I blew it.I left Belgium a couple of years later after I fel in love with a Hungarian girl I met on a cruiseship.I was working as a percussionist with British string player Anthony Boast as our duo "BRAGA" ,while she was working with a Hungarian band as a singer/keyb.We got to know eachother on a wonderfull night just before reaching the coast of Mumbai('97)I was going through a difficult periode with my belgian girlfriend and asked the lord at that moment"why can I not have a girl like her?"We didn't met after our contracts were finished on the ship in the first year.By the time I arrived in Belgium my girlfriend asked me to pack my bags and leave the house,I had to leave behind 10 years wit! h her and my son Levi(now 15).But a year later I stepped on a bus to Hungary stayed there for 8 days and came back with her to Belgium.When I left the ship(I left in Thailand,she went on to China)there was something inside her saying I would be the father of her children,and as a young girl she told her mother many times she had dreams of meeting a man on a ship.Now six years later I'm living in Hungary,married to this wonderfull woman and having a son(Adrián 5) and daughter(Olivia-Eliána 1 month).Although I was born and raised as a catholic I never was busy reading bibles and worshipping the lord in a way most other believers do.After my wife turned to Jezus,I did to.It hasn't been all easier since,while christianity is getting more popular then ever and manifesting itself into the most strange ways I'm still confused about all the scriptures and the way people manifest their "christ like being".Although I believe in God and our lord Jezus as what his message brings t! o me,I can not agree totally with certain parts of can/can't do/don't as what a lot believers tell you what you can't and must do.But what changed with me is the way I listen to music now.I hear so much preaching through text and had a feeling that 80%of your text has some relating towards believe.There is also the controverse in it,the manifestation of your own personality.In a way your songs are like preaches to me.It's like I have some friend to lean on.Being stuck as a believer not having the possibility to have serious conversations with believers here in Hungary is rather difficult to me because of the language problem(I do understand a lot of the language and speak some Hungarian,but not enough to have such deep conversations)so I have to do with books and the christian satelite

The one and only time I met Sting was in April 1988 in Milan,Italy.At that time I used to collaborate with Amnesty International, and that day we went at the Arena in Milan to put up a little table to collect signs in support of the 40th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration. We entered the Arena at about 3 o'clock p.m. and while we were putting up things, I saw Sting walking with a cup of tea in the distance. Oh God! I had been waiting for that moment since the first time I heard Roxanne on the radio many years before...Then I took up all my courage, a pen and a copy of the H.R.Declaration and I walked towards Sting.He noticed me, stopped and I was just beginning to talk with him (heart bumping and knees shacking all over...) when two body guards put themselves between me and HIM.I was so upset but he was so kind! Sting told them to stop and to let me talk.I explained what we were doing for Amnesty International and he thanked us for our work!Then he signed ! the Declaration, we shake hands and after a little talk I followed him until the stage.I guess I could have followed him even upon the stage (nobody was disturbing us anymore!)but it was enough for me... He said again hallo to me and I left him doing his soundcheck. What a day that was! You can't even imagine how many times I had dreamt that moment before...and that day the dream became reality. Life is a circle. And sometimes it seems that there are no such things as accidents. You have affected to my life by 'funny' but remarkable ways. I have never seen you 'live'. Probably never will. But that is not the point I decided to write to you. I try to go to the point soon (some researchers never go...).

When I started to play bass in different Finnish unknown bands at the 70's, it was the time of your 'visit' in Quadrophenia movie. During that time, The Police, Who, Rolling Stones & Eric Clapton was the 'real' music for me, beside my classical violin studies. After I totally stopped to play bass & guitars in bands at the age of 18, I was working in University of Helsinki two years later. At the same department - my work supervisor - was a redhead girl, called Marle. Perhaps you remember her from your childhood in London? Her mother was a jazz singer (a famous one in Finland, decades ago) and Marle was living years with her mother at the same building as you at her age of 10 (?) or something. If I remember right our discussions with Marle over 20 (!) years ago, you were some kind of friends in 60's (?), playing as happy kids in the back yard of the house. On the other hand - taken into account my miserable memory - I may remember all totally wrong...

Anyway, she was a singer who needed a composer and she gave to the leader of her record company some unfinished stuff I had made to my last band. 'Too American' but I got a very polite and 'please-send-more-stuff-later'-letter from the boss. I never did. Since then, during the next 20 years I totally excluded my musical dreams from my life and played violin, guitars & saw (yes - it is possible to get understandable tones from that?) usually only when somebody asked. Or when my youngest son needed an accompanist when he was singing. Still, your music strongly affected into my 'musical mind' through all these years. Mostly heard from the car radio and from the memories, but still.

Life is funny. A year or two ago I accidentally saw your childhood's friend in Finnish TV (singing jazz - surprisingly?). Anyway, I remembered my own childhood dreams to compose and play music. And I felt guilty because I have not done anything serious about it. Finally, few days ago, after some drastic chain of events in my life, and after reading your interview from a Finnish magazine, I finally decided to do something; I bought a Fender Jazz Bass I have already dreamed about. Then I walked to a record store and accidentally found your latest DVD where you played guitar & bass at your home studio. And when I was playing with

my new bass along with your DVD, I 'found back' to my 'musical home' and I am happy and inspired again. IF I some day will compose or record anything 'real' - or at all(?!) - is not important. Important for me is, that I found the musical inspiration again, partly thanks to your music and it's 'funny' connections to my life. Here in Finland. ! Thank you for your touching music, Mr. Sting.

It was rainy and gray, but suddently the sun came out from behind the clouds, and shone it`s gentle rays upon you. You started to sing "after the rain" as if to celebrate the sunshine. The mood of the concert was beyond words to describe. When you returned to Helsinki in april 2004, I was there to see you again. The show was incredible, the anti-war theme was touching and memorable. It made me think about all the pain and misery in the world. Allthough you made a strong point of your opinnion on war, you still brought up feelings of hope and love, and the feeling that we can help to make the world a better place. 2.In 1986 I saw my friend to drink at the bar in Soho, NY and then he said "I have been to the show of Sting at the hotel St.Regis".Next day I walked along the street in Soho I found the sun glasses which have the same design(paired lengthways ellipse and oblong elipse ) you had worn before.

3.Recently I strolled around the street thinking about my E-mail which will be derivered to you,I saw a woman wore Sting T-shirt printed 'Filds of gold' on it in front of the flower shop.

4.In early 1989,after I lithened to the album 'Sychronicity'in my apartment,I went to a book store in Roppongi to see the book about the Jung psychology.after all, I bought another book next to it,I got a work based on the infomation written in the book.

5.I study the psychology of the process work based on the Jung group theory include the theory for the solution of the conflict between the races and ofthe ecological problem.

moon:

1.In my childfood I had an image everytime I walked, the moon fallowed me.The moon was not my guide,I was the moon's guide.It's the exact opposite to 'sister moon'.

2.In the lunar landing of the apollo11 in 1969,I was in a class at the elementary school and wached on TV,a teacher commented to the class "The time may come when Kaoru will get married and live in the moon".I was very amazed to hear that.Whenever I lithen to 'Walking on the moon'I remenber the teacher's wards and the situation.

3.In the lunar landing of the apollo11 in 1969,a teacher said " we can see the rabitt making the rice cake on the surface of the moon in Japan,but in U.S, we can see the crab on it.In my second time travel to U.S. I wanted to comfirm it and went to New Orleans,I took some pictures of the' moon over Burbon street' to prove it.

I will tell you how important you and your music are to my everyday life. I could start by saying that you are my favorite artist ever. Other people may be very talented, and even if someone else has wonderful music, the music and the singer are simply NOT the same as yours. I wish I could figure out a logical explanation as to why this is so. I just believe that your music and your voice is so unique, that no one can duplicate it. If there was a fire in my house (God forbid) and I could only take with me the CDs of only one artist, I would take yours in a heartbeat because your CDs are that important to me.

I became a fan of yours exactly one year ago. I had only heard you in the song "Every Breath You Take" but other than that, you I heard Fields of Gold on the radio and I thought it stood out from the other songs because the melody was very lovely, and the voice of the man singing it was so beautiful. I somehow found out it was you, and sought to discover more of your songs. I also watched videos of They Dance Alone and Englishman in New York on your website when it was not updated, and I liked those songs to the point where I wanted to purchase an album of yours. I realized that your "Fields of Gold: Best of Sting 1984-1994" had the three songs that I had wanted: Fields of Gold, They Dance Alone, and Englishman in New York. As I listened to the entire CD, I discovered that there were other songs that I had liked as well, and didn't realize how good you were. I became really impressed by you and decided to purchase other albums of yours. I already had Brand New Day as we!ll as the Fields of Gold album, so I decided to purchase the Soul Cages. I heard it was a wonderful album and I realized that their claims were correct. I purchased Mercury Falling afterwards, then gradually I collected all of your work. It has been almost a year now that I officially became a fan of yours, and I must say that your music is the only music in which I wish to listen to it literally every day. If I go one day without hearing your music, I start feeling very strange! Your music is not just music like people listen to when they want to turn on the radio. It is as important as the food I eat and water I drink, that is, it is a staple of my life!

I have read your autobiography Broken Music, and I wish to reread it when I have more time. I was very impressed with your writing in this book. I was not surprised to see it written so well, considering that your lyrics have such profound depth and beauty, and I had a feeling that your intelligent manner of writing would transfer over from lyrics to passages in a book. What I was pleased to see was that your book was very humbly written, as if you had wanted your readers to be exposed to you as a person, a real human being, and not just a musician. It appears as if you wanted your readers to realize what your family and childhood was like, what hopes and dreams you had, and the hardships you overcame and the people who inspired you to fulfill your goals. It appeared as if I were reading the autobiographical memoir of the person behind all this music, and not just a gossipy account of your interactions with other famous musicians. Hello Sting,

just want to thank you for all your nice songs. I think we need such songs as yours, not only the foolish "yeah I love you baby bla bla bla" hits that are sooo wide spread today. Most performers make their audience only enjoy their music. There are really few (of course, you're included :-D) who can make people think about important things.

Nice to see the "complete short stories" in your songs (Never coming home, Stolen car ...). They show brief episodes of life, how we hesitate before taking our decisions, etc.

Okay I finish writing now, I think you're tired of reading the many many messages :-)

Dear Sting,on 16th May 2004 you gave a wonderful concert @the Royal Albert Hall. It was my Mum's 54th birthday that day and it was my present to bring her to London to see you. I think it was one of the happiest days in our lives, thank you for singing even though suffering from throat infection!! I grew up with your music from when it was possible (Police wasn't allowed in the GDR, or hard to get, at least), my parents loved you ever since "Russians"... they always told me about when they heard it for the first time and couldn't believe that someone would sing a wonderful, true song like that. I am ever stunned how you manage to express the things I think in such words and tunes, it' s unbelievable. You're very inspiring, not only through your music, but through most things you're doing. I recently saw the "All this time" DVD and couldn't stop myself from crying along when you were discussing wether to perform or not. "The world has changed" - I don't think you were awar!e of how right you were then, but -as always- you said the right thing and made

Dear Sting,

What shall I say? Neither a page nor even a book would be enough to express what does your music mean to me. I could analyse the structure of your songs, the importance of your arrangements, the punctuality of your musicians’ playing or the meanings of your lyrics, but all these efforts may be unnecessary. I could also write wonderful metaphors or deep thoughts, but I won’t do that.

Previously your music was just a pastime for me, one of those ’good music’, a lesson to play the guitar. Today it became an essential part of my life. I got to know more and more things about your songs, about the way of their creation, and about you of course. Although I still cannot play the guitar perfectly, I had been collecting your recordings since I was 16. Five years ago I started to build a Hungarian website in order to systematize all the information I gathered before and share them with other fans. On 1st September 1999 with my friend, Greg and I founded the Hungarian Sting Fan Club, initially as an internet mailing list. All of these things; the website, the fan club and to listen to your music dominate my days.

Perhaps there is no part of life that I cannot connect with one of those anecdotes about you, a lyric or a melody. Even though I am aware of the hottest news about you, I read most of the biographies and ’Broken Music’ as well, I still do not know everything about you and never will. It wouldn’t be so good at all, because the magic – which motivates me to listen to your albums over and over again, drives me to understand your lyrics and makes me to search for the latest news about your music every time – may fade away. I hope you are going to play music for us for a very long time and this magic will never disappear from my life.
