In addition to this, you need to type a personal reflection of this piece of writing. It needs to be at least one full page in length, but no longer than two. Please follow the Heading info in the top right corner and the bolded title, above. Please single space and use 12 point font. Please proofread! Your reflection piece should be in paragraph form. You should discuss what you learned about yourself as a writer and what you learned about your writing skills after analyzing your cause and effect essay. You must address the following bulleted items: Provide a response to creating this essay as a collaborative effort with a partner(s). What was your role/explain your writing contributions to the essay? What were the advantages of working with a partner? What were the challenges? Would you like to write collaboratively again or would you prefer to write independently? Tell Mrs. Mixdorf the ways your essay improved from the fused draft. You need to provide enough detailed information to earn full points for the improvement of your paper from fused draft to final copy. Be specific and use examples. Identify your thesis. Was it challenging to create a thesis for this type of essay? How do you know that you indeed have a cause-and-effect essay? What evidence do you have in your piece of writing? Why did you decide on causes/effects/or both? Why? Did you take steps to avoid Post Hoc reasoning? Do you explore main causes/effects as well as contributory causes/effects? Do you point out immediate causes and remote causes? Explain. Do you feel like you are strong at this type of writing, or do you feel like you have some weaknesses to strengthen with this form of writing? Do you think you elaborated enough? When looking over the six traits of writing (the pink handout) where do you see your strengths as shown through this particular piece of writing? Where do you see a need for improvement? What evidence (or lack of) do you have in your paper that backs up your opinion? How did working collaboratively with a partner assist you with the six traits? Quote two or three of your favorite phrases or sentences from your paper and explain why you like them. Be specific! Does it give the reader a specific clear map to follow? Do you have a particularly exceptional sentence with strong word choice? Assess how well you have carried over skills and strategies from previous essays into this essay. Did you use any narration, description, or exemplification in your writing? Explain. Some other ideas you may incorporate in your personal reflection include: Comment on your use of transitions. Did these come naturally to you as you wrote your process, or did you have to insert them when you were revising? Give an objective review where you concentrate on the concrete items you like or dislike in your paper. Perhaps you have several misspelled words or your peer reviewers identified fragments or run-ons. Give a subjective review where you concentrate on your opinion of the piece. Do you like reading this cause and effect essay? Why or why not? Write about other realizations you’ve had about yourself as a writer, about the writing process, and/or about peer reviews these past two months.
