Mapping Musical Migration
People have immigrated from all over Latin America to make homes in the United States. However, there are certain regions in particular from which many people have come to the U.S. Mark Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico on your map.
Latinos live throughout the United States. There are 41 million Latinos in the U.S. Five cities which have large Latino populations are New York City, New York; Los Angeles, California; San Francisco, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Miami, Florida. Mark these cities on your map.
What patterns have people followed when migrating to the United States? We can trace these larger patterns by looking at the lives of individuals: in this case, musicians.
Use the table below to map the immigration journey of each person or his/her family by drawing an arrow on the map from the place where he/she or his/her family originated to the place in the United States where he/she worked.
