NAIROBI ACADEMY PREPARATORY SCHOOL 3rd February, 2017 Volume 2 issue 15 www.nairobiacademy.or.ke Note from the Head We have had a very productive week both in and out of the classroom. With the extreme heat can I ask you to encourage your child to drink plenty of water - we are encouraging them too. I have noticed this week that children are coming to school with packets of crisps and packets of Ribena and yoghurt etc. May I remind you that we are a 'PACKET FREE SCHOOL' The amount of litter dropped on the ground this week has been atrocious! If you must give your children crisps or Ribena please empty the contents into a refillable con- tainer so that we do not have all these packets at school. Wishing you a very happy weekend! Ms Carrie Gammon Counselors Assembly The school counselor ‘s assembly was about being a Buddy and not a Bully . Students were given “Its cool to be kind badges.” and encouraged to value & respect differences because we are all special in unique ways! Inter –School Verse Speaking Competition On Saturday 28th January 2017 Nairobi Academy hosted the Inter-School Verse Speaking Competition. Fifteen different Schools participated and they came from all over Kenya - Mombasa, Kisumu, Nanyuki, Thika and Nairobi and it's environs. There were 3 categories Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12. We had two wonderful judges Karungari Mutu who is an author and Bernadette Quadros who is a lawyer with a great interest in the performing arts. They had a very hard time judging as the standards were so high and ALL the children performed so well. When I went over the marks I couldn't believe how close they were. Mombasa Acad- emy and Peponi House came joint first, with Brookhouse taking second place and Braeburn Kisumu came third. It was wonderful to see how much talent there is in these young children.

    Entrepreneur

This year the children came up with their own idea for their com-munity service project. They decided on ENTREPRENEUR DAY. Each class came up with their own idea on how they would raise money on that day. We had bake sales, tombola stands, milkshakes stalls, a restaurant, hover boards, smoothies and many more. The children had a great day and many parents came to to help and join in the fun too. At the end of the day they managed to raise 83,500/-!! The student council representatives will gather ide-as from their classes to help decide what we should buy for Ad-venture Pride School. We will keep you posted. A big THANK YOU for all your support.
