DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL NADERGUL

SOCIETY REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2018

Winter is the king of showmen

Turning tree stumps into snow men, And houses into birthday cakes,

And spreading sugar over lakes.

Smooth and clean and frosty white,

The world looks good enough to bite.

That's the season to be young

Catching snowflakes on your tongue.

Snow is snowy when it's snowing

I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going. Ogden Nash

It’s cold, it’s cold…it’s biting…biting cold, let’s run, let’s play and bring some KINDNESS today.

Zuzu and friends began the cold month with a lot of warmth in our hearts. We took the Kindness oath in a special

assembly to introduce the value of the month;

“I am caring, I display thoughtfulness, I value KINDNESS.”

Our teachers had a wall of Kindness in all our classes, each day a kindness superstar got a mention on the

wall. My friends and I understood that it is important to be Kind not just to be appreciated by the teacher, but

kindness brings a smile on the faces of people we help.

I’m also excited because we will be getting a Kindness Superstar badge when we are found doing the most number

of acts of Kindness.

MATH WEEK

Zuzu didn’t realize that unconsciously we use mathematical theories in our daily lives. It is math concept

everywhere, be it in time, chocolates or number of books we carry to school.

To encourage and motivate students to build a strong relationship with Mathematics, our school, Delhi Public

School, Nadergul marked a whole week as ‘Math Week’.

All my friends from grades 1 to 7 enthusiastically participated in the Math Week activities. Our assemblies were

mini Math Encyclopedias, lives of legendary Indian mathematicians were discussed to influence young minds to

fall in love with the subject.

It was not only this, but solving different math puzzles was truly exciting. We really had a great time, learning

tricks and techniques in Mathematics.

FIELD TRIPS

Not a day goes by without excitement in our school. We saw the closure of Math Week and the arrival of field

trips……Hurray!

Our school, Delhi Public School, Nadergul, believes in guiding us to explore and discover new concepts and

theories, this was the reason my friends from grades 6 and 7 visited the Do Science Park. It was not only an

educational tour, but a fun trip as well. My friends loved the outing with friends and teachers, the interaction during

the trip made way for bonding with classmates. And not to forget Kindness in sharing water bottles and snacks, a

sight to behold.

Twinkle …twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are! Zuzu

always was in awe of the stars, planets and their sequence in the sky.

Do you think our school will rest when we get a question in our mind?

They immediately arranged for my friends from grade 5 to visit the

Birla Planetarium to unravel the questions troubling our little minds.

The voyage to space was an experience out of the world, the

constellation of stars and their distance from earth revealed how

colossal they are and how small we are compared to them. Another

reason to value Kindness, values such as these will make us twinkle like

stars.

ISA AWARD

With the untiring and outstanding effort of our teachers and

management, matching international standards of teaching and

learning experience, our school, Delhi Public School, Nadergul,

was recognized and awarded the ISA by the British Council. The

British Council International School Award (ISA) is a

benchmarking scheme that accredits schools as having an

outstanding level of support for:

Nurturing global citizenship in young people

Enriching teaching and learning

The International School Awards aims to felicitate schools of India

that have given their best shot and contributed in changing and shaping the society for the better.

ISA 2018 ceremony was held at Banglore on the 3rd of December and Zuzu was extremely excited to watch

Nagalaxmi Ma’m receive the ISA on behalf of the school.

Workshop by coordinators on teaching strategies:

At our school, not only do students learn and explore new things, but teachers as well. To keep up with the new

trends in making teaching effective, our school inspires Zuzu’s teachers to go through training workshops to be

able to stay abreast with new techniques and strategies. Our teachers are equally eager to attend and participate.

Brain Based Learning:

Present problems cannot be solved with the same level of thinking or with the same tools that created them. It is a

set of principles and a base of knowledge and skills upon which we can make better decisions about the learning

process.

The brain is poorly designed for formal instruction. In fact, it is not at all designed for efficiency or order. Rather,

it develops best through selection and survival.

Jigsaw method:

The jigsaw technique is a method of organizing classroom activity that

makes students dependent on each other to succeed. It breaks classes into

groups and breaks assignments into pieces that the group assembles to

complete the (jigsaw) puzzle. Think, pair and share.

Page 5: NADERGUL SOCIETY REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER …€¦ · Ogden Nash It’s cold, it’s cold…it’s biting…biting cold, let’s run, let’s play and bring some KINDNESS

Fish Bowl method:

Class is divided into two groups-inner and outer group. Inner group are

speakers and outer group are listeners. After the first round of activity the

groups change places.

Hand writing:

Lower and upper case letters in cursive handwriting.

Multiplication tables:

How to teach times tables to children.

KWL method:

K-knowledge

W-What they have to know.

L-what they learnt.

Graphic organizer:

It is a method to introduce and explain a topic in a flow chart or graphic/visual aid.

Our teachers are truly the most modern and updated. No wonder learning is so much of fun at school!

BEST ORATOR COMPETITION:

"The art of communication is the language of leadership." —James Humes. Communication is the backbone of

our society. It allows us to form connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Public speaking is one of

the most important forms of communication. Delhi Public school, Nadergul understands the importance of

communication, hence the best orator competition was conducted for grades 3 to 5 to instil the seed of an orator.

Topics like- My Dad My Super hero; My Mom My Angel. These topics were announced 2 days prior to the

competition. Zuzu and all of us enjoyed listening to our buddies.

CHAI PE CHARCHA

Another of our own design to improve communication skill is Chai Pe Charcha. Grade 3 students interviewed our

Headmistress, Ms.Maria about the “Common errors in English language”. We students got a lot of information

from HM Ma’am about pronunciation of words, easy ways to learn spelling of big words, when do we use see, look

and watch, these and more questions were clearly explained by Ma’m to us. Zuzu loves learning this way, rather

than just sitting in the class room.

DEBATE

Communication skills, critical thinking skills, public speaking skills and to instil team spirit monthly debates are

organized in our school. Zuzu gets charged up to watch my friends of 6, 7 and 8 state their views boldly about

issues and debate with teachers. Guess why teachers? Simply because it’s teams mixed with students and teachers.

The topic chosen for this month – ‘Should students be allowed to use mobile phones in the classroom’?

Students stated amazing points why mobile phones should and shouldn’t be allowed in the classroom. The

confidence with which students argued their opinion clearly revealed that they had done a lot of research and

prepared well.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

Jingle bells, Jingle bells, Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride, On a one-horse open sleigh……

Jing a ling a ling….la..la..la.. It’s that time of the year, when the cold weather doesn’t make me cold, but more

excited. Its Christmas time! Zuzu was excited to see silver bells, tiny Santas, Christmas tree, carol singers, goody

bags and the Christmas crib in the school campus. Our Pre-primary, Grades 1 & 2 tiny tots of DPS, celebrated

Christmas with great fervor dressed as little Santas.

As a class room activity they made mini santa caps, socks,

bells, etc as part of Christmas celebration and carried them

to their home with great joy. Kids’ favourite TV channel,

Khushi TV partnered with our school and organized Santa

Run and a few fun games for the tiny Santa.

Our teachers and management cut a cake in the evening and

had a cute Christmas get together singing carols.

JOY OF GIVING

The season of love, peace and joy stirred our hearts to give, giving

to the needy is Kindness. Zuzu and all my friends contributed to the

Joy of Giving by sponsoring things worth Rs.5/-. All this was

collected along with a bigger contribution from the school and given

to the drivers and ayammas of the school. Zuzu is proud of his Kind

School!

THEMATIC SET UP

Zuzus preprimary friends experienced all three seasons under one roof. Surprised? Yes, it’s true! Life size set up

of the three different seasons was portrayed so students would understand the difference and learn about seasons.

I’m sure Zuzus friends will comprehend the difference when they face the real seasons.

More set ups in the corridors were about different festivals. It was truly colourful and informative. All my friends

visited the different festival arenas and learnt about them. Our teachers know how to teach us, not just from text

books, but from models and observation.

SPORTS

Zuzu learnt from school that sport builds good habits, confidence and disciplines us. Our school is known as a

pioneer in encouraging students to participate in any sport that they are good at. Many of my friends participated

in state and national games. At our school we celebrate participation since that itself is an achievement.

Ujwal Singh of 8A, participated in the 64th SGFI Throw Ball Championship held at Raipur, Chattisghar,

from 23rd to 26th December.

G.Charu Varshini of 8C participated in the 41st Senior National Throw Ball Championship held at Mohali

Chandigarh, from 26th to 29th December, she achieved the 4th place.

An eventful month! Zuzu and friends, continued with the same warmth we began the month with, the biting

cold of December could not freeze our excitement nor our spirit to be Kind. We, never stopped spreading Kindness.

We did it not only at school, but at home as well, being kind to parents and helping them in the household chores.

Coming to the end of the month Zuzu realized that we also reached the completion of another revolution of our

blue planet (Earth). The journey was an incredible one, filled with adventure, experience, tears, joy, and power

packed learning. As we bid adieu to 2018, our hearts swelled up with unspeakable joy as we geared up to welcome

another magnificent voyage revolving around the sun in 2019.

Hey! Don’t forget to pass on Kindness, it’ll come back to you!

Fasten your seat belts. Here we go!!!
