Annual collaboration of the USCCB CCLV Secretariat and CARA since 2006. The USCCB has conducted the study since 1998.
The survey was administered between January-March 2021.
Of the 472 identified ordinands, 346 completed the survey (73% response rate).
The respondents included ordinands to the diocesan (261) and religious priesthood (83).

40% Share of foreign-born ordinands increased from 22% in 1999 to 38% in 2003. Since 2003, the ratio declined to 23% in 2015. In 2021, 27% of ordinands were foreign-born.

Most common countries of birth among foreign-born ordinands are Mexico, Vietnam, Philippines, and Poland.
Religious ordinands are 4 percentage points more likely than diocesan ordinands to identify as Caucasian/Euro. American/white.
Diocesan ordinands are 4 percentage points more likely than religious ordinands to identify as Hispanic/Latino.
