August 4-6, 2021 | Kansas City, MO
Welcome to the 2021 NACE Central Area ConferenceOn behalf of the Kansas City Section, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Kansas City, Missouri!
Kansas City was founded as a port city providing supplies to the trappers and early settlers in the Missouri River and Kansas territory. When the California gold rush occurred in 1849, Kansas City (or the “Town of Kansas” as it was known then) became an important supply outpost for forty-niners, ranchers, farmers, and settlers embarking on journey’s westward on the Santa Fe Trail, Oregon Trail, and California Trail. During the roaring 20’s and on through prohibition, Kansas City was well known for its nightlife, speakeasys, and the emergence of Kansas City jazz through the national prominence of Count Basie, Bennie Moten, Charlie Parker and other jazz greats to emerge from the area. In more recent years, the city has been well known for our major league sports teams: the Kansas City Chiefs football team, the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and Sporting KC our MLS soccer team.
While visiting, some sites of interest are the Liberty Memorial and WW1 Museum, the only full-scale museum dedicated exclusively to WW1 in the USA. Additionally, Crown Center (home of Hallmark Cards), the Plaza (internationally known upscale shopping district, and the 18th and Vine Jazz District (including the Negro League Baseball Museum) are destinations that should not be missed. Of course, while in Kansas City, you must sample some KC bar-b-que!
We have embarked on a unique approach to the technical program this year. We are offering a “basic” track consisting of many common topics of interest to any corrosion professional, and an “advanced” track consisting of mostly actual customer case studies delving into more specific field applications and new tools and techniques for corrosion management.
We also encourage you to take advantage the ample time provided to visit our exhibitors, who will be showcasing the latest in corrosion control technology and products, and join our great networking opportunities to mingle with old friends and new to further increase your knowledge.
Once again, thanks for joining us here in Kansas City. Our Section is pleased to offer the first area conference in over a year, and we are hopeful everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to re-engage with their peers and the corrosion control community!
Thanks,
Jamey Hilleary Mark Anderson
