IMAGINE COMMUNICATIONS
Playout
Imagine Communications has long delivered mission-critical playout systems, including its widely
deployed and trusted ADC™ automation. At NAB presented the latest in playout functionality, including
the seamless integration between ADC and the Versio™ modular playout platform, allowing customers
to start using next-generation technology while preserving their capital equipment and training
investments. At the same time, they are minimizing risk by retaining their trusted and verified ADC
system. With Versio supporting TS, SDI, 2022-6 and now with the introduction of SMPTE ST 2110,
customers can operate their systems across any format all with the same playout solution, migrating to
IP at their own pace.
In addition to Versio and ADC synchronization making hybrid playout a simple proposition, the
coordination between these two is a major step in the migration to a fully software-defined playout
center, ready for new formats and agility. Plus, this coordination ensures that cloud disaster recovery
implementations can rapidly take on all the functionality of an on-premises main playout, protecting
revenue streams. To aid in making that ability even more cost-effective, new at NAB is multichannel
support in Versio, providing for better channel density and more efficient virtualization, as well as N+M
redundancy for full protection at optimum cost.
Live Production
The Selenio™ Network Processor (SNP) is now established as a critical element in IP and hybrid video
and audio environments. This high-density device seamlessly bridges SDI and IP networks, providing
sophisticated video processing in a space- and power-saving 1RU. Designed with four independent,
FPGA-powered processor blocks, the SNP gives customers true flexibility in adapting to various
production workflow requirements in 3G, UHD, HDR and beyond. Leading the industry in the delivery of
UHD over a single stream of ST 2110-20, the SNP also delivers 12G-SDI for UHD over a single link, a
hugely practical element in a transitional architecture. With rapidly growing interest in adding HDR to
production workflows, the SNP can now process multiple formats, including S-Log3, HLG and PQ, so
broadcasters can deliver an enhanced viewer experience.
NAB 2019 5
Software-defined networks require sophisticated control to achieve the promised economies and agility.
The Magellan™ SDN Orchestrator (SDNO) from Imagine Communications is a proven software control
solution deployed in multiple installations worldwide. It delivers full support for SMPTE ST 2110 and ST
2022-6, plus the most comprehensive list of third-party IP endpoints via native APIs and open protocols,
making it ideal to orchestrate complete live production and playout operations. The Magellan control
layer now supports virtual re-entry for complex signal flows and multiple simultaneous actions to be
prepared in advance for a single take, simplifying the management and control of hybrid and all-IP
networks.
The EPIC™ MV multiviewer provides unrivalled monitoring power, with new functionality including the
ability to output compressed transport streams for remote or IP distribution of display mosaics, and
interpretation and display of SCTE-104 and -35 triggers or alarms to enable supervisors to react

EDIT SHARE
The fast pace of change
Doesn't time go by so quickly? Just look at how the Media and Entertainment landscape has changed.
Five years ago, a standard configuration for our Ultra storage platform was 8TB, with cloud storage
only a blurry vision in the distance. Today we are heading for the storage stratosphere with installs
routinely hitting 1PB and beyond. The exponential increase of file size and quantity, together with the
ever-expanding variety of formats and hi-res codecs, has made high-performance media engineered
storage essential. Security has leapfrogged many other industry concerns to arrive at the top of the list:
now a prerequisite for doing business in post-production pipelines. Global delivery formats, a long-time
fantasy for many organizations, will become a reality in 2019 with the broader adoption of the industry-
changing IMF. Increases in internet speed and improvements in file-sharing technologies have
continued to dissolve distance, making remote collaboration a viable option. Production teams are
becoming truly global as facilities in London, LA and Hong Kong share collective project workflows.
Pipedreams of the past are the realities of today. EditShare not only embraces the future but has been
playing a key role in defining it!
EditShare EFS Scale-out intelligent media storage: Embracing the future
EditShare’s EFS file system is designed for mission-critical media and entertainment workflows. It’s the
fastest media file system on the planet. Recent testing proved that a 15-node 1.5 PB EFS system based
on commodity enterprise-class SATA HDDs is capable of delivering a constant 15 GB/sec of concurrent
XAVC 4K streams. Infinite scalability enables clients to aggressively grow while continuing to enjoy
unparalleled throughput performance, meaning your creative applications never have to wait for their
media to arrive. Coffee breaks are now optional!
Meet your storage needs, effortlessly
The distributed parallel file system that's gaining worldwide adoption from the M&E community is now in
place at diverse facilities – from TV stations to creative post studios to film houses, airline designers and
rocket propulsion agencies. If it’s a digital media file, EFS will host it, handle it and secure it.
Shaping the future of M&E Security
Storing and serving all this media is one piece in the puzzle, but what about security? Security shouldn’t
be an afterthought. The media and entertainment industry is dealing with high stakes with enormous
production budgets designed to produce breathtaking content. With thousands of jobs on the line,
content needs to be delivered to a cinema or an OTT provider, making sure it has not slipped into the
dark web during any phase of the production. Vendors who are diligent about data protection
understand the importance of making security a priority throughout the development cycle of their
products.
The EditShare research and development team is light years ahead of the industry with the introduction
of EFS Auditing, the industry’s only real-time auditing platform designed
to manage, monitor and secure your media from inception through to
delivery stage. EFS Auditing keeps track of all digital assets and
captures every digital footstep that a file takes throughout its life-cycle,
including copying, modifying and deleting of any content within a
project. IABM, the International Association for Broadcast & Media
NAB 2019 7
Technology Suppliers, recognized EFS Auditing as a game changer in storage content security,
awarding it the coveted ‘Best Storage’ product of 2018 at the IABM BaM awards in September 2018.
And this year at the NAB conference, EditShare will be chairing a talk on “Security: Table Stakes for
Doing Business Today” on Wednesday the 10th of April.
EditShare Shared XStream EFS File Auditing: The smoothest workflow, made possible
Eliminating the bottlenecks of standard IT network protocols such as SMB and AFP, EditShare’s high-
performance native EFS drivers for Windows, Mac and PC platforms, gives end users a 20% boost in
speed compared to standard IT networking. EFS drivers are designed to deliver your video at lightning
speeds and with our Intelligent SwiftRead system built in which is designed to manage data access
contention, you’ll never have to worry about slowing down, ever. EditShare platforms offer unbeatable
performance on day 1 and right throughout their lifespan.
Performance is just part of the story
You will hear lots of people talking about the need for continuous high-performance speed, a field in
which our media storage is unrivalled. But that's just one side of what EFS offers. Since the company’s
founding 15 years ago, EditShare’s ethos has focused on the importance of openness and creative
collaboration. We aim to provide facilities with a rock-solid platform on which to build, while providing
the flexibility to work with every NLE, every sound mixing or VFX program along with every operating
system. We keep that promise today, by delivering to you unmatched project and media sharing
capabilities for all your leading creative solutions, whether editing, compositing, finishing or grading.
We deliver on this promise.
The best tools, available to everyone
We all have big dreams, that’s why we don't just keep our EFS platforms for enterprise clients. EFS is
available for creative boutiques that have visions of growing to become the next big thing. EFS single-
node shared storage platforms are available at a price-point that enables small and emerging studios
to migrate their workflow into a modern scale-out environment that can expand to meet their needs.
With the single-node EFS systems we’ve made expansion very straightforward – simply add one or more
new storage nodes and bandwidth increases with storage capacity. The approach allows facilities to get
moving with a high-performance configuration that is best suited for the stage of their production and,
more importantly, their budget.

At the heart of TVU MediaMind Appliance is metadata. TVU’s AI uses face and speech recognition to
tag incoming footage with information regarding who is in a certain clip and what is being said. The
system stores that data and organizes it to make it searchable easily and in real time; natural language
search yields time-coded results that point you to the exact desired video
clip so you can use and reuse it for any number of productions.
As the demand for video increases, along with the ways that people view
it, it is crucial to put out content that suits all sorts of viewers, and to do
that, all of your video content needs to be fully leveraged. TVU
MediaMind Appliance makes this possible by doing the work to give
more meaning to your raw material and make it usable and reusable.

range of video/audio applications. It consists of four HDMI 1.4 (4K30) video input signals and one
HDMI connector for UHD (4K30) output.Multiple units can be cascaded for displaying more than 4
sources on one UHD monitor. There are optional KM (keyboard/mouse switcher), KVM over IP, and
UHD2HD converter cards to provide solutions for a variety of applications in UHD multiview
presentation, over IP KVM, and video wall display.
KEYBOARD/MOUSE SWITCHING
With the KM card, user can freely switch keyboard and mouse between 4 computers directly connected
to the Sequoia UHD. While in dual monitor operation, user can use two UHD monitors for concurrent
monitoring and operation of a total of 5 computers using a single set of keyboard and mouse.
KVM Over IP
A KVM-IP card provides two HDMI sources along with USB transmitted over long distance via a LAN
over gigabit switches. Two KVM-IP cards can be installed in the Sequoia UHD chassis for having up to 4
computer sources over IP. With the KVM-IP card, user can have a mix of local direct feed HDMI sources
and systems a far over IP connections while operating seamlessly with a single set of keyboard and
mouse.
CASCADE OPERATION
Sequoia UHD can be
cascaded to display
more than four input
signals on a single
monitor. Cascading can
be applied to the keyboard and mouse as well. Therefore, making it possible to operate 4, 8, 12 or
more input sources on a single/multiple monitors with a single set of keyboard and mouse, creating a
variety of multiview solutions.
UHD VIDEO WALL PROCESSING
With self-generated sync signal, multiple Sequoia UHD units serve the needs of UHD video wall
processing employing video sources over local IP network. Each unit is capable of processing up to four
UHD images. By using the UHD2HD converter module, Sequoia UHD becomes an HD video wall
processor. The UHD2HD shares the same slot with the KM module.
