WHAT ARE THE GOALS?• The NAACP's principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and

economic equality of minority group citizens of United States and eliminate race prejudice. The NAACP seeks to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through the democratic processes.

• Echoing the focus of Du Bois' Niagara Movement began in 1905, the NAACP's stated goal was to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution, which promised an end to slavery, the equal protection of the law, and universal adult male suffrage, respectively.

BENEFITS OF BEING APART OF THIS GROUP• The NAACP (the National Associated for the Advancement of Colored People) has a long

and illustrious history of supporting legislation, programs and institutions that promote the needs of African-American people. Since its inception in 1909, this civil rights organization has evolved and continues to be relevant to the African-American community. These days, the NAACP works at federal, state and local levels to promote its diverse concerns.

• The NAACP is most known for its role in doing research, making statements and publishing literature about political issues affecting African-Americans. Other programs the NAACP actively organizes include ACT-SO (the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics); civic engagement actions, such as voter registration drives; economic empowerment campaigns that support African-Americans gaining representation in various professions; gathering of volunteers for relevant causes; health awareness campaigns; media monitoring; the re-enfranchising of ex-felons; advocacy for women of color; and campaigns targeting youth
