Friday night’s at the Club are more “laid back”. Special events are “bi-monthly”. It is during this hiatus that we will be refreshing and expanding. Refreshing the parking lot and the swales. Expanding the covering of the Bocce court. This slow down period , beckons those who have any ideas to come forward. Would you have an idea for a program or an event? Perhaps you’d like to change the way an event has been presented in the past. If so, make your suggestions known. We welcome ideas, in fact, we are seeking creative members to step up to the plate. Do you have an event in mind? If so, get on the schedule for the next Board Meeting. Call me or any Board member. We can help you with the details. John and Kate Antico have stepped forward! They will be hosting the Valentine’s Dinner/Dance, February 14, 2015. Granted, hosting an event for the first time can seem daunting. But, with all the experience available, hosting an event can truly be gratifying. Mother’s Day Brunch 5/11/14

Member Fathers are free but still need to get a

ticket for planning purposes! See Barbara!

Custom Omelets, carved ham/turkey, an array of “hot” dishes,

salad, fruit , mimosas & wonderful desserts delighted all the

mothers & families once again. This year’s Mother’s Day

Brunch was attended by 170 hungry people, including 93

members. Joe D & Bruce B coordinated the event with their

able workers: Patsy S, Justin T, Tom C, Carlo F, Bob P,

Karl B, Tony R, Ralph M, Angelo T, Tom S, Marino R &

Joe C. Décor by Linda B helped by Tony R & Ralph M.

Thanks as well to Dick C for seating & to Barbara T, our

ticket seller extraordinaire! Mother’s were treated to a flower

along with good wishes when they left! Kudos to the gentle-

men of the club ! It was a HUGE success! Grazie mille!

MAY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!! 5/18/14

There were 81 people in attendance for the celebration who dined

on pasta fagioli, fish, chicken, salad, fresh tomato salad and garlic

bread. A veritable feast! Birthday celebrants included Wayne

Gray, Laurie Mazzilli, Johanna Giordano, Mafalda Hord, Franco

Puri, Ben Petrone, Mary Indovino & Kate Antico. New members

attending were Frank Aidala & Joe Bird. Many thanks to those

Rotary Futures Program At the May 2014 General Meeting, eleven seniors from Venice High School received $14,000 in scholarships from the Italian American Club of Venice. The scholarship chair Marion Capecci & committee Carlo Ferroni & Ron DeBacco selected the deserving recipients from over 35 applications based on financial need, citizenship, Italian heritage and grade point average. All students are members of the National Honor Society, active in community affairs and contribute more than 100 hours of community service each year. Marion introduced each recipient. Fields of study included medicine, engineering, finance, biology, music &

education. We wish these goal oriented, graduating students all the best in their future endeavors and we are happy to play a small part in helping them achieve their goals. Congratulations to the graduates & their families!

BOCCE NEWS: The IACV & Venetian Falls had their 4th tournament at the club. After several matches, the winning team, both from IACV, played off against each other. Team 1: Marino, Patsy, Diane & Joe D Team 2: Lulu, Grace, Secondo, & Tom S. The winners were Lulu’s team! Fun was had by all including the spectators and guests. Refreshments were prepared & served by the club. Re-match next year? Bocce is held at the club on Mondays at 9:30 am. Ciao, Justin
