UPCOMING

EVENTS It is a huge honour to be nominated as Chair of the Board. I hope the previous4 years of sitting on the board learning about the business will put me in goodstead to assist the board and staff continue the business on its upwardstrajectory. It has been at best a challenging year with the advent of Covid-19and the staff are to be commended for continuing to turn up to assistmembers during a lockdown period, knowing their own health, and theirfamilies health could be at risk. We thank them for their dedication.

The season appears to have started out kindly, with the paddocks awash withsilage and hay just waiting for harvesting, and lovely consistent rain meaningirrigation is at a minimum for this time of year. Product prices have also beenupbeat – and long may that continue. In the business itself we are making some changes to the way our deliveryservice is being managed, to try to take pressure off the staff on the floor, andprovide our members with a more personalised and proactive service. So don’tbe surprised if you get the call that the Trucks are heading your way, and whatdo you need on its way past. In order to gauge what our members really value and are looking for from theCo-Op and to help us mould where we head the business so its aligned withthe members needs, we are undertaking two forms of survey. One a quickcomputer survey, and for some a phone survey as well. This is being done by aprofessional survey firm, who are working on our behalf. We all hate surveys, but we see it as the ability to give you the opportunity to assist us in makingthe right decisions for you. So please, if you get a call, take the time to makethat difference. Until the next newsletter… RegardsDonna Avery

While it has been a great year for a lot of our members with higher milk and beef prices, we still have seensignificantly higher input costs in commodities like grain and fertiliser. At long last we are starting to see grainprices turning the corner with the new harvest being well above last years poor results. Which is why we haveseen a massive reduction in bulk grain prices moving into new season.

We also expect fertiliser prices for products such as urea to ease slightly in the New Year. We can’tunfortunately offer you much optimism for rising dairy commodities returns but at least some of the key inputscombined with an improved season will make Christmas a little easier for many of our members.

While 2020 continues to throw curb balls our way, the business has recently broken some major sales records, with October 2020 being an all-time record sales month for the Co-op in both the Wynyard and Smithton storewhich continues to exceed our high expectations thanks to the support of all our members and the hard workof the entire team.

Most of our members have experienced decent rainfalls in recent weeks, which has seen the silage season lookquite strong. Based on the amount of grass I continue to see around the area I suspect that many farms will belooking for second cuts over the next few weeks. I will say that while we have been keeping up with silagesupplies if you are going to need silage wrap or net wrap in late December please get your orders into us ASAPto make sure you don't miss out.

We’ve also got two BBQ's planned in the lead up to Xmas; one in Smithton and one in Wynyard. We encouragemembers to join Directors and staff at these events. They are good events to mingle with fellow members andgive us valued feedback on how we are going as a Co-op. While we hope to run the events smoothly on thescheduled dates, COVID 19 restriction may create unexpected changes last minute, so if you are wanting toattend please keep an eye out for any announcements.

Finally, we have two new staff members who have started at the Wynyard Co-Op. The first being LeearnMcNamara , who has rejoined the Co-Op after leaving in 2018. The second new team member is Damien Kaywho grew up in Smithton but has just moved to Yolla.

On behalf of all our staff we wish all our members a Happy Christmas and New Year. It’s been our absolute privilege working with you all this year.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING It was good to catch up with members at our recent AGM and talk about the Co-Op continued successand exceptional results last year. Once again we had a strong membership turnout even with COVID 19restriction with two candidates seeking election as Directors. As a result, sitting Directors Donna Averyand Simon Elphinstone were elected to the board for a three year term.
