YASKAWA Offers Energy Savings with Pursuit of Power Quality Upcoming Events

“Demand for power is more than the available or generated power and hence the industries and households suffer the power paucity. It’s time to implement the methodologies for the energy savings with pursuit of power quality,”

Akinori UrakawaPresident and CEO, Yaskawa India

YASKAWA has been one of the pioneers in innovation with cutting edge technological brilliance for many decades across the globe. YASKAWA’s commitment to produce the energy efficient products and reducing carbon footprint is getting stronger each year. Its technology mainly focuses on creating a greener planet. Mr Urakawa discusses about the need of energy saving and recent advancement in the field.

In India, companies have faced possible energy shortage due to shut-down of power plants. Further electricity price hikes is forcing them to step up energy saving efforts and thus cut costs. Fundamental to these efforts are energy saving and energy efficient measures related to rotating devices such as motors and generators used widely across almost all type of industries.

“Demand for power is more than the available or generated power and hence the industries and households suffer the power paucity. It’s time to implement the methodologies for the energy savings with pursuit of power quality,” believes Mr Urakawa.

Latest innovations and productsConsidering the present market requirement in India, YASKAWA introduces the new AC drive technology called Matrix which is used for low harmonic regenerative power applications. The new Matrix technology does not need capacitor in the module which makes free

of maintenance, compact and increase the module life span.

The evolution of the product U1000, which provides the way to save energy in the industries, power regenerative applications such as cranes, winders, conveyors, agitators, elevators, escalators, robots, textile weaving, presses, test bench, machine tool etc. It also describes the way of power factor improvement and reducing the low harmonics such as fan and pump, HVAC, and compressor etc.

Improves system performanceA Matrix converter is AC/AC converter which consists of nine bidirectional switches that are arranged in the matrix

form. It converts a three phase AC power supply directly into the required voltage and frequency. U1000 product is available from 2.2kw to 450kw.

“When a motor rotates, it consumes energy. When a motor is rotated, it generates energy,” points out Mr Urakawa. “One can save energy by using regenerative energy instead of wasting it. U1000 can serve to the motor power and also regenerate to electrical network when the motor is in regenerative mode.”

Typical applications of these drives include cranes, winders, conveyors, agitators, elevators, escalators, robots, textile weaving, presses, test bench, machine tool etc.

When an AC drive converts power, the input current is distorted which results in harmonics. These harmonics can interface with other electrical devices by causing overheat or damage to power supply facilities, malfunction and noise in precision devices. U1000 will maintain the current distortion less than 5 per cent and almost unity power factor (i.e. 0.98) thus reducing the power supply capacity, improving the performance of the system and thus the overall quality of the power.

Place: Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya, a religious site and place of pilgrimage associated with the Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is famous as it is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment.

For Buddhists, Bodh Gaya is the most important of the main four pilgrimage sites related to the life of Gautama Buddha, the other three being Kushinagar, Lumbini, and Sarnath. In 2002, Mahabodhi Temple, located in Bodh Gaya, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

HistoryBodh Gaya is the most holy place on Earth for the followers of the Buddhist faith all over the world. Situated by the bank of river Neranjana the place was then known as Uruwela. King Ashoka was the first to build a temple here.

Buddha was born 563 BC in Nepal on the following auspicious Baisakhi purnima. As Siddhartha, he renounced his family at the age of 29 his gaining enlightenment in 534 BC and travelled and meditated in search of truth. After meditating for six years at Urubela (Buddhagaya) in Gaya, he attained Buddhatva or enlightenment. Enlightenment is a state of having infinite knowledge, and being able to accomplish the Noble and Universal truths. By gaining enlightenment, you enter Nibbana, in which the final stage is Parinibbana.

At this place, the Buddha encountered the five men who had been his companions of earlier austerities. On meeting the enlightened Buddha, all they saw was an ordinary man; they mocked his well-nourished appearance. “Here comes the mendicant Gautama,” they said, “who

has turned away from asceticism. He is certainly not worth our respect.” When they reminded him of his former vows, the Buddha replied, “Austerities only confuse the mind. In the exhaustion and mental stupor to which they lead, one can no longer understand the ordinary things of life, still less the truth that lies beyond the senses. I have given up extremes of either luxury or asceticism. I have discovered the Middle Way”. This is the path which in neither easy (a rich prince) nor hard (living in austere conditions practicing self-denial). Hearing this, the five ascetics became the Buddha’s first disciples.

These disciples of Gautama Siddhartha began to visit the place during the full moon in the month of Vaisakh (April–May), as per the Hindu calendar. Over time, the place became known as Bodh Gaya, the day of enlightenment as Buddha Purnima, and the tree as the Bodhi Tree.

The history of Bodh Gaya is documented by many inscriptions and pilgrimage accounts. Foremost among these are the accounts of the Chinese pilgrims Faxian

in the 5th century and Xuanzang in the 7th century. The area was at the heart of a Buddhist civilization for centuries, until it was conquered by Turkic armies in the 13th century. The place-name, Bodh Gaya, did not come into use until the 18th century CE. Historically, it was known as Uruvela, Sambodhi, Vajrasana or Mahabodhi. The main monastery of Bodh Gaya used to be called the Bodhimanda-vihāra (Pali). Now it is called the Mahabodhi Temple.

Mahabodhi Temple

The complex, located about 110 kilometres from Patna, at 24°41′43″N 84°59′38″E,[8] contains the Mahabodhi Temple with the diamond throne (called the Vajrasana) and the holy Bodhi tree. This tree was originally a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Sri Lanka, itself grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree.

It is believed that 250 years after the Enlightenment of the Buddha, Emperor Asoka visited Bodh Gaya. He is considered to be the founder of the original Mahabodhi temple. It consisted of an elongated spire crowned by a miniature stupa and a chhatravali on a platform. A double flight of steps led up to the platform and the upper sanctum. The mouldings on the spire contained Buddha images in niches. Some historians believe that the temple was constructed or renovated in the 1st century during the Kushan period. With the decline of Buddhism in India, the temple was abandoned and forgotten, buried under layers of soil and sand. The temple was later restored by Sir Alexander Cunningham in the late 19th century

Festivals of IndiaIndependence Day of IndiaIndependence Day in India - The Independence Day of India is celebrated on the 15th of August to commemorate the birth of a free and democratic nation. 15th August, 1947 is the historic day that marks India’s freedom from the stranglehold of the British Raj. On the eve of 15th August 1947, the Indian flag was unfurled proudly by Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, at the Red Fort in Delhi. Jawaharlal Nehru’s landmark ‘tryst with destiny’ has gone down in the annals of Independent India as a proud moment for Indians. Thus India’s Independence Day is a deeply inspiring day and a day to revel in the freedom and glory regained by our freedom fighters.

Eid ul Fitr

Eid ul Fitr - Among Muslim festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr, the ‘fast-breaking’ festival stands out in its popularity and religious significance. Eid-ul-Fitr is a celebratory day that generates the deep devotion and surrender to Allah during Ramadan. It refers to the breaking of the month-long routine of fasting from sunrise to sunset. ‘Eid’ itself implies a ‘festive’ occasion that spreads joy and happiness all around. It is the momentous day of Eid-ul-Fitr that hails the Shawwal month. Eid is a three-day long celebration that reaffirms the ideals of piety, empathy, charity and solidarity among Muslims all over the world. It is celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm and affection.

Festival in National language “Hindi” known as Uthsava or Utsava or Utsav is derived from the Sanskrit word, Utsava. The Sanskrit word Utsava comes from the word “ut” meaning “removal” and “sava” which means “worldly sorrows” or “grief ”

Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day 2014 - Teacher’s day is not just a day for fun and change of roles. It is also a day to remember how much of hard work and time

goes in, before a teacher walks into that classroom and teaches you that chapter. It is a day for showing gratitude towards the person who has patiently heard you out when you asked the same question

attack on British rule. They insisted on boycotting foreign products and insisting on ‘swadeshi’ or homegrown products. Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave the call for ‘Swaraj’ and very soon the resounding of the slogan “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it” filled the air.

From the Jalianawala Bagh tragedy to the Non-cooperation Movement and Quit India Movement, India’s struggle for freedom is chequered. The era of Gandhian nationalism

HistoryIndia maintained good trade relations with the western world, till the East India Company defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah and set its sight on India with the aim of colonizing it. The East India Company took over and later the Crown ruled with the Viceroy helming the administration.

The Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 put paid to the status quo with the Barrackpore Sepoy Mutiny rising up in arms against British rule, as did the Meerut uprising. Soon discontentment took serious proportions in the fierce battle of Jhansi, battle of Kanpur and violence and protests in Bengal, Bihar and Gujarat. The early wave of nationalism from 1885 to 1905 was led by liberalists like Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Dadabhai Naoroji and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya who were believers in moderate politics and boasted of legal, literary backgrounds. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, the extremists comprising Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bipin Chandra Pal and several other leaders dominated the political climate by launching a fierce

gave direction to mass movements till the Quit India Movement or ‘Bharat Chhodo Andolan’ in 1942 finally shook the confidence of the British administration. By this time, the two World Wars had already taken its toll on the resources of the British. Finally, the bridled determination of Indians led to the ouster of the British Empire. The powers were transferred to Constituent Assembly in India, and India was declared a free country. India gained its independence on August 15, 1947.

a hundred times. It is also a day to thank the person who guided you in matters more than academic. A person like that truly deserves a special day earmarked to him/her, right? So, the next September 5th, make sure you pick up that phone or make an extra effort to call your teacher and thank him/her for the lighthouse they have been in your life.

Now that’s what an awesome teacher does; I guess. They teach us, guide us, love us, scold us, cry when we pass out and then never forget us. The Indian scriptures also speak about the four

entities that make us what we are. Mata, Pita, Guru and Devam (Mother, Father, Teacher and God). A stature of a teacher comes before God Himself. I am sure this is why Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President and the second President of India (for his passion for education) insisted on celebrating his birthday as the Indian Teacher’s day and thus arrived September 5th. The first teacher’s day being in 1962, we have come a long way celebrating and being grateful to all those people who have taught us not just academics but values and ways of life as well.

The importance of Eid-ul-Fitr is associated with an actual event in the history of Islam. Allah sent an angel to reveal his words over a period of 23 years. These teachings formed the Holy Quran. Following the successful completion of the month of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr becomes a great occasion to thank Allah for giving believers the will-power and endurance to observe the month-long fast and follow rules in personal conduct. It is also a time to renew one’s faith in Allah and seek his blessings. The Islamic practice of giving ‘zakat’ is also upheld during this time. Just before Eid, Muslims part with some portion of their earnings and grains for the poor, so that they too can celebrate Eid with full fervour.

On this fortunate day of Eid-ul-Fitr festival, morning prayers are followed by a sermon and a congregational prayer at the mosque. Muslims offer Eid prayer ‘Do Rakat Namaz’ on this day. Then, dressed in new clothes they proceed to greet their family, relatives and friends ‘Eid Mubarak’. This is done through friendly embraces and handshakes, as good gestures of unity. The ritual of distributing alms on this day is observed throughout the ongoing celebrations.
