VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

Congratulations to the Nelles volleyball teams. Thank you to our coaches Mrs. Nawrocki, Mrs. Shapland, Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Hunchak.

Junior Girls volleyball has been particularly excit-ing this year with over 30 girls coming out for try outs! Due to the extreme enthusiasm, we decided to not only have a Traveling Team but to also have House League Teams! For all of November we have had five different teams playing against each other every morning at break. Girls have been coming out every day to play and practice. It's been fun!

On Monday, December 1 we will play at Gainsborough for the Championship! Good luck to Lucy, Ava, Avery, Kali, Ryan, Payton, Skyla, Rhys, Lilly, Kirsten, Jenna, Alika, Sarah, Emily, Abbee Maree and Riley in their game against Gainsborough!

A big thank you to Mrs. Backman, Mrs. Ahad and our Dance-a-thon Committee who worked hard to get prize donations and or-ganize the prize draw. Students had a great day and got lots of exercise. Thanks to all who supported this event and the volunteers who gave their time that day.

A special thank you to our sponsors: Oxford Learning and Budget Blinds. And thank you to By Request Entertainment Inc. for making it such a fun day for our students.

Thank you to all the students who brought in a loonie and brought in books to support our Ju-venile Diabettes Fundraiser. Our Fundraiser was a great success!

INDOOR SHOES

It is important that our students wear indoor shoes at school for safety reasons. Children who walk around in socked feet could get their feet and socks wet or injure themselves.

Should there be a fire emergency, students need to vacate the school immediately. They will be going outside in bare socked feet. There is no time during an emer-gency to put shoes on. Please remind your child to bring a pair of indoor shoes to be worn in the school.

WINTER WEATHER

Please make sure your child comes to school dressed appropri-ately for colder winter weather. He/She should have a hat and mit-tens, boots and a warm winter coat. Please label all clothing.

HEAD LICE PREVENTION TIPS

Head lice can be found in all types and

lengths of hair. There are steps you can take

to prevent infestation.

Encourage your child not to share

combs, brushes, ponytail holders or oth-

er hair accessories.

Keep long hair in a ponytail or braids.

Avoid sharing, hats, coats and scarves

or other personal items

Routinely check your child’s hair and if

lice is found, please contact the office.

Students wishing to toboggan on the

Nelles hill during both breaks this

winter are required to wear a

bike, hockey or ski helmet.

This is to ensure students

safety while on the hill. An

adult supervisor will be pre-

sent while students are tobogganing. Students

should supply their own sled, snow pants, gloves

and helmet. Thank you for your support.

Online Math Games - Thinking about the Games our Children Play

(Tips from-National Council of Teachers of Mathematics NCTM)

Math games are a wonderful way to engage children. There are many websites which allow children to practice their math facts.

While there is a place for this type of practice, there is also a significant place for other websites and games which help children

engage in mathematical reasoning and learning. Some questions that might help you determine the value of these types of math

games follow:

e

different pathways to the end?

g

a card) and an opportunity to make a decision?

-threatening?

Even one-player games can spark rich discussion of strategy.
