Estimating root zone soil moisture at distant sites using MODIS NDVI

2010 We (Xie one of the four co-chairs/organizors) successfully held the first

NASA's Teachers Workshop funded by two NASA grants to UTSA. 23

teachers from San Antonio and other areas attended the unique

workshop focused on Polar and Planetary Sciences. Xie taught basic

remote sensing and GIS and their scientific applications.

ENVISat radar and altimetry data (2009-2012).

2009 As the team co-leader (with my student Burcu Cicek), our workshop

proposal entitled "Monitoring Arctic and Antarctic sea ice from various

satellite products" approved for implementation by the International

Space Science Institute (ISSI) at Bern, Switzerland. The ISSI will

provide expenses for all participants (12-15 persons) except for the air

tickets (will be funded by our NASA project). The workshop is planed

for the early 2010 at the ISSI.

2009 As the PI and project advisor for the NASA Earth and Space Science

Fellowship (NESSF) awarded to Ms. Penny Wagner ($30K per year for

three years) for her to continue her doctoral study on Antarctic sea ice.

UTSA did not take the award since she can take it to U Deleware for her

PhD study.

2009 As the PI for the project entitled "Antarctic sea ice: thickness,

concentration and extent and their changes" approved as European

Space Agency (ESA)'s Category 1 project (6461) to freely use their
