Does the CIO role have a future?

If so, what does it look like?

What is expected from the role?

and...What do we, CIO’s, need to focus on?

"The key is not try to build the strongest wall around IT but to focus on responding to changes as quickly as you can, that's the role of the CIO in the future. The role of CIO in many organizations has expanded

Contrary to some views I believe the CIO role is strengthening,

But......the role is changing/has changed,

the expectation of what CIO’s should contribute,

the skills, capabilities required,

It’s my opinion:

“though it’s where it all starts, the CIO role is about more than just running IT”.

“equipped with the right capabilities and track record the opportunities are there to take on business transformation programmes and step in to wider business roles”.
