We have been working on putting words in alphabetical order and substituting ending sounds.  We have learned more about jobs and different tools that are used.  At afternoon centers the students worked on matching middle sounds, thinking of and writing their own questions for someone they would want to interview. They graphed colorful shapes and made rainbow books. The students are getting better at writing in complete sentences and finger spelling. The students are also thinking of what we are going to miss from this year, and what we're excited for when first grade starts. In our persuasive writing the students are learning that writers reread and fix up their writing, collaborate ideas for spelling strategies, and celebrate all the different styles of writing they can create! We are learning words that end with /ing/ and working on reading fluently.

We are over half way of learning all 83 sight words for the year! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for your child to learn to read these sight words quickly, without sounding out! Have your child practice their sight words daily. As one student asked me today, yes, you can take the weekend off to relax.
