A national level coordinating decision-making body was established

on 2 September 1991. The main functions of the committee are:

to advise the union government in enacting educationallaws which will support the perpetuation of the physicalintegrity of the Union, national solidarity and nationalsovereignty

to coordinate in adopting educational policies in line withthe social, economical and political system

to give guidance in implementing programmes aiming atpromoting the intellectual and technical advancement ofthe people of Myanmar

to coordinate in reviewing and amending educationalprogrammes

The aim of the plan is

to strive for the development of highly qualified humanresource and

to introduce regional human resource developmentprogrammes.

To implement 21 programmes focused on five core areas:
