In Myanmar, electrification stands at 28%.

• As part of NEP, government is rolling out SHS and planning transmission expansion

• Southern states, will be among the last to be ‘grid connected’

Challenges

• Decentralized grids are not receiving

due attention…

Immediate energy need:

• Industrial Estate on island near Myeik

• Cold Storage, Wood Mill, Aquaculture etc.

• National grid 200km North, all energy from diesel generators

• Electricity is expensive

• Investment to include (11kV) mini-grid

for other industries to reap benefits

• Smart grid for local communities

• Allocation of energy to telecom towers

A role model project:

• Investment to include development of a smart mini-grid for local

communities, serving both commercial off-taker and telco tower.

• Will integrate smart meters & mobile payment facilities.

• Developing jointly with Telenor as a pilot project.
