My Testimonial I approached Nafisika Trust because I felt the need to get out of my comfort zone. The internship was a great opportunity for me to explore a Non- Governmental organization where theory and practice are closely related. I found the internship with the help of Spire Education, a career accelerator program for young professionals. I found placement as a Career Coach at Nairobi West Prison. My role mainly included teaching the inmates on areas of Communication: Business and Communication etiquette, CV& cover letter writing as well as public speaking. My internship helped me improve my time management and communication skills through independent projects and team work. Furthermore, Nairobi West provided a glimpse behind the scenes of knowing how the prison system works. I have learned that for a table to be complete, all parts have to be fine-tuned. Rehabilitation is both mental and social. Through the interaction I had with the students and officers, I was able to touch on the social parts that included building back their confidence through speech and in writing. The most important thing I learned is to work in a professional way, either in data or written communication. I would recommend doing an internship at Nafisika as it will truly help you in deciding the path you want for your career, even if it is just a glimpse. The internship really strengthened my practical skills. Every day I found new opportunities and links between theory and the real working environment. Further, the internship gives one a unique experience which one would never capture during their studies.
