Perfume is thousands of years old - the word “perfume” comes from the Latin phrase per fume, “through smoke”. People have used perfume, oils and unguents on their bodies for thousands of years in lesser or greater amounts dependent on fashion whims. The late 19th century was the first real era of perfume as we know it when new scents were created because of advances in organic chemistry knowledge.

So come, indulge in the wondrous and irresistible fragrances available onboard.

How to pick the perfect perfume?Choosing something that suits you can be tough. Do you go fruity and floral or opt for something muskier?

Scent Trail

Understanding fragrance notesChances are the fragrance you choose will also have several “notes.” Perfumes often contain layers of scents to create their unique bouquet. These layers are referred to as notes, and rather than noticing only one type of scent (rose or vanilla), you’ll pick up on several notes that become more apparent over time. So what you smell at the beauty counter will change by the time you get home.

Top notes: This is what you smell immediately upon applying your perfume. It’s the scent that first hits your nose, but then evaporates quickly.

Middle notes: The middle notes emerge as the top notes are dissipating and make up the majority of the scent.

Base notes: These notes are richer and are not often detected until you’ve been wearing a scent for at least 20 to 30 minutes. These notes provide depth and back up the middle notes to create the overriding theme of the scent.

1. Consider scents you enjoy

Make a list of your favorite smells as a starting point. From clean laundry and freshly cut grass to campfires and lilacs, your favorites might be all over the place. Don’t worry. The point is to remember the scents that mean something to you so you can choose a perfume with similar notes.

2. Think about your personality

If you usually wear little to no makeup and love the outdoors, opt for a fresh, clean scent versus something spicy or musky. If you love getting dressed up and can’t help but think of yourself as glamorous, choose a scent that lingers and matches your ‘notice-me’ outlook on life. The idea is to choose a fragrance that best represents who you are.

3. Test perfumes before buying

You can’t tell much from the scent strips in magazines or fragrance testers at department stores; plus, perfume smells different after you’ve worn it for a few hours, as we mentioned. So before getting out your wallet for the first scent you spritz, ask for a larger sample and try your potential new fragrance for a few days before you commit.

4. Ask for opinions

Ask your friends and family what they think. Is it too strong? Does it linger too long? Do they like it? Ultimately, the choice of fragrance is yours, but a second (or third) opinion on whether it suits you or not will be helpful.

n Some items may not be available due to space limitations. If you are unable to purchase your selected product due to unavailability, please accept our apologies.

n The sale of duty free items will not be available when the “Fasten Seat Belt” sign is on.

n Passengers under the age of 18 will not be entitled to purchase cigarettes and alcohol.

n Please note that transit passengers have restrictions on the carriage of LAG’s (liquids, aerosols and gels) due to aviation security reasons. Such regulations and restrictions change from destination to destination, please check with our cabin crew for further information.

Please note that refunds/replacements can only be made if the below conditions apply:

n Defective items must be returned for replacement only if prior notification has been given within 48 hours of purchase.

n Defective items must be returned in their original condition, unworn or unused and in its original packaging with the sales receipt or all related travelling documents (e.g. boarding pass, copy of e-ticket receipt) to Air Niugini. Upon safe receipt of returned goods, we will issue a refund or a replacement.

n Replacement of goods will be mailed directly to customer’s address and will include any incurred postage cost.

n Air Niugini will not accept items which have been damaged due to abuse, misuse, accidents, alterations or appear to have been used. Dutiable items may not be replaced due to local customs regulations. These may include tobacco products, liquor, fragrances and cosmetics.

n Air Niugini will refund money only if there is no stock of the items to be replaced.

n No refund will be made for liquids, aerosols or gels (LAG’s) that are confiscated by the airport security at LAG’s affected airports.
