A WHOLE NEW SOUND DS is the combined musical talents of 18 year old S.Weezy, better known as

Weezy-S, and 17 year old D.JD. Their music is UK based Drum ‘N’ Bass. They come from the streets of Alum Rock, Birmingham, where they’ve had tough times growing up, with a lot of ‘Haters’ envying their recognized talents. D.JD began his ‘crazy’ beat making skills

at the age of 13 on a small Synth keyboard and a cheap music editing software at home. Weezy S began at the age of 13 as well, he discovered he had the ability to rap well when

free styling with a group of friends. They’ve formed a unity since and are taking on a whole new level of music. By working hard they’ve made it far, and have shown that even the

most unexpected things can come from the most unexpected people. DS aim to show that true music doesn’t have an ethnic background and by working hard and seeking your own goals, anything can be achieved.

An inside scoop into the youngest Beat-maker and Bass-Rapper on the ‘Scene’

So who are you, what is “DS”? D.JD doesn’t speak much; he lets his productions do the talking, so I’ll be talking on behalf of him as well. So, we was once a fairytale, an urban legend, but this is it, we’re a revelation to the public, this is where reality begins we’re DS of Just Thug Productions! You can call me Weezy S. I’m the vo-cal half of DS, spitting my fl ow on the hot beats D.JD cooks up for me; it’s as simple as that. We’re Asians making movements, we’re Bengals breaking through to the music scene big time, gonna show the world we Bengals aint just curry men.

When did you start this partnership? I was on a self tour at the time, a year ago, trying to get a break, performing in small places in different ends and that. Started off in my background village in Bangladesh, went off to

Mumbai in India, came back to UK and performed at my school. D.JD just happened to be there, he was impressed and he offered me some crazy ass beats and that’s

what made us such good mates and partners.

What sort of music are you giving to your fans? We’ve created a whole new scene; it’s a fusion of east-west, its Drum ‘n’

Bass, Dub-Step to a whole new level. We’ve exploded since the fi rst underground mix-tape. Our music reaches ears from Mumbai to Birmingham, Scunthorpe to Amsterdam. Got gigs all round; it’s a whole new sound. Who is your target audience?

The music is not for the faint hearted, it’s music for the night-life. It’s for the people who don’t sleep, it’s poison to your ears. What advice would you give to people trying to make it to where you are?Be unique, give your fans what they want, what they deserve. Be better than everyone else,

aim to move mountains with your music. Make ear-drums bang for more BUT...don’t try to get ahead of us [Winks]. Haha. I joke, I joke. Just don’t be afraid to take hits,

even if it’s notgoing as well as you’d hope it would, just keep going, experiment and master the music .

How well do you think you’re doing with the music? Got a cult following now, we’ve created something out of nothing. This is an underground movement, it’s time for change, and we’ve brought it. The club scene’s gone crazy for us. We was brought up by the DnB club scene, and now we’re giving something back. In what way are you different to other artists and groups out there?Beats are different, nobody produces them like D.JD. Style is different, you can’t defi ne us, you can’t label the music, it’s alien and it’s out of this world. How did you get where you are? I did bare gigs in and around local schools and local events and then D.JD spotted me and since then it’s been madness, we sent a CD off to a few record companies and managed to get a deal. Parties, clubbing, girls, money and all that came with it. I know I speak for both of us when I say the people made us happen. Big up to all those fans, all the ladies and all the mans. Where do your biggest fans come from? Handsworth. It’s proper live there. People get our music down there, they feel it, they practically live off it. If it weren’t for the Handsworth massive, we wouldn’t be here, they made us, put us into the international scene. And a massive big up to the BBC Asian Network for giving us radio airplay. Biggest big up goes out to all those haters out there, you people are our biggest fans. Do you have any role models? I have a lot of role models, but the Nasha Experience was huge to me ever since I was a kid. They were different in their own, they showed that even Asians could get into the game. D.JD aint got any role models though, he is a role model for all those producers out there, his beats are crazy man.How did you feel when you fi rst got to know D.JD?You know, when I fi rst saw him was just weird, it was like he stood out so much and looked like me as well, I was like yo!. It was like seeing my refl ection in a distorted world.

What’s next then, what else do you plan on giving to us, will we get to see other members join your group? Just thug productions is big you know, they making movements, bare artists and all that in it. But DS is just me and D.JD, for now at least, we’ll see what happens. What’s coming to you will surprise you, so prepare to expect the unexpected. One fi nal question, why is it D.JD never speak? We’d have to kill you if we told you [Laughs]. Bottom line is, you’ll never know, no-one will, it’s not important you get me, what’s important is he’s the best producer ever BRAP!
