MY RESEARCH PLAN By Siddarth.B.A From 5 Victorious
Slide 2
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY STUDY? Being the son of a diabetic
man who loves fruit juices, I constantly hear the groans like:
Argh! That packet of orange juice is just so tempting! and things
like that. Some people are health conscious and want to make sure
that the intake of sugar is controlled and have no idea that they
are consuming more than the restriction. As a result, I would like
to test, out of the brands of fruit juices, which brand has the
least sugar, in their orange juice, for the benefit of the
diabetics, as well as the health conscious ones. This means that I
will find out whether the sugar levels on the packaging tallies
with the one in the fruit juices.
Slide 3
THE AIM OF MY STUDY I would like to find out whether the amount
of sugar written on the packaging of the juice tally with the sugar
extracted from the juice itself.
Slide 4
MY RESEARCH QUESTION Does the amount of sugar written on the
packages of orange juice of different brands tally with the amount
of sugar extracted from the juice itself? The reason why I chose
orange juice was because: according to research, orange juice is
the most liked fruit juice among Singaporeans.
Slide 5
WHAT IF If I ask you now: Would a healthy fruit juice as well
as ten spoons of sugar blend together? The answer, would obviously
be no. Yet that just about describes the amount of sugar in a glass
of orange juice which most people drink daily.
Slide 6
WHAT IS IN JUICES Fruit Punch has 11 12 teaspoons of sugar with
195 calories.* Grape juice has 12 teaspoons of sugar with 200
calories.* Orange juice has 13 teaspoons of sugar with 210
calories.* This is simply not beneficial for those who are
consuming the healthy juices as this can pose as a threat to many
whose bodies cannot accept the consumption of this much of sugar. *

HOW AM I GOING TO CARRY THIS OUT? I am going to conduct an
experiment to extract sugar from juices. It goes like this:
Extracting the sugar from the juice in this science experiment that
requires adult supervision around the hot stove or leave it in the
sun for a few days. Using a pan (first weighing it empty and
recording the weight), scale and can of regular juice, put the
juice to boil in the pan or let it evaporate. After the liquid
ingredients have boiled away (after about 10 minutes of constant
stirring), a thick syrup remains. Weigh the syrup in the pan and
subtract the weight of the pan to get an accurate measurement of
the sugar.
