My Music Video DiaryDay 1

On our first day of filming, we filmed at Eccles train station to capture a number of shots for the third scene of our music video in which the main character would be at the train station before leaving the small town she lives in to runaway to London. We decided to film at a train station to emphasize that the character is travelling a long distance! We filmed during the afternoon when the weather was slightly overcast which was good because we didn’t encounter the problem of over exposed shots due to the sunlight.

Due to this being our first day filming and us not being overly confident, we had a slow start and also we had the problem that the train station itself was not as busy as we expected it to be when location scouting. However we decided this wasn’t a major issue and we would continue, throughout the afternoon our confidence grew and we became more familiar with the equipment, also I feel we did particularly well to work as a team and remain professional which resulted in some good quality footage. On this particular day we shot a large number of shots that we most likely won’t use all of them, however we felt it was vital to get a wide range of different shots including long shots, mid shots and close ups in order to give us a wider choice range when editing.

Day 2

On the second day of filming we did a whole day in two indoor locations, in the morning we filmed at my house to get shots for two scenes, the first one being the beginning scene where the main character is sat in her living room reading a letter, and the second scene being the flashback scene where the main characters parents are fighting in the kitchen. I feel that these two scenes went particularly well in terms of the quality of the footage, although we did find it difficult to film due to the location being very small; however we solved this by re arranging the furniture.

During the afternoon we filmed at Pendlebury church hall where we planned to film the final scene where the main character is performing on stage. Due to the fact we found it impossible to find a café which would give us permission to film there, we decided to create a make shift café in this location and therefore also filmed the scenes where the main character is working in a café.

Throughout the day there was a mixture in quality of footage, some turning out very good quality and others turning out not so good. I feel like we continued to work well as a team; however I do feel we rushed the filming on this particular day and we didn’t get a wide enough range of footage.

Day 3

On the third day of filming we filmed at various locations throughout Eccles for the introduction to our music video. Although this wasn’t in our script we decided as a group that it was essential to establish the setting at the beginning of our music video. Again I feel this was very rushed, mainly due to the cold weather

and although we got a small number of good shots I feel that if we were more organised and had taken more

time discussing ideas and filming we would have been able to achieve a wider range of footage.

Day 4

When creating our rough edit we encountered the problem that the footage we had wasn’t connecting together well and we were finding it hard to create a linier narrative. Therefore we decided that it was necessary to go out for a fourth and final day. During this day the main problem was that we couldn’t go back and get extra footage from the previous location which was the church hall due to the short notice, therefore we all generated a range of ideas and decided as a group during this day it would be beneficial to film in a variety of locations, getting a variety of

simple shots including the main character running from the building to the train station and close ups of the characters feet to emphasize the fact she is running away and to ensure that the narrative ran more smoothly and made more sense, which seemed to work effectively.

Unlike previous days, we were a lot more organised and instead of rushing we spent a lot more time focusing on specific shots and getting each shot to the best of our ability, which resulted in a wide range of good quality shots.
