Alphonse: Just try. Death will never reach me, even on a bullet. You see, I never revealed mysecret: immortality.

Alphonse: I had it from the start. Think ! (Walks to the father) Where do you know me from before? Dreamt any lately? (Turns away, starts to leave) Bon voyage.

Grandfather: Ill pay you blind with paradise. What to dyou want? Gold, women? Boys? Comeover here! (Alphonse turns back) Welcome back to the company. (They shake hands)

    (The chemist exits)

Alphonse: I failed. I couldnt leave my son. Not again.

(The chemist sees the body, surprised to see it still there. A realization dawns on his mind, andlooking around carefully and suspiciously approaches the body. He takes from his pocket anamulet with a ruby gem in its centre, and puts it to the heart of the body, reviving it. The

reflection gasps for life)Alphonse: Its okay, kid. Everythings okay. Just think to yourself, life is magic, and everythingwill be pure magic.

Johnny: (coming to) I disappeared and I thought. (realizing) They shot me dead, those crooks, they thought I would be their machine. I dont dance for nobody but myself.

Alphonse: Do not excite yourself, son. There is a bullet inside you. Papa will hide you in histower, where no one will find you.

Johnny: Why save me? Im damn sure they have a whole pile of other ones, just like me,underground, waiting to be reassembled. (seized by a vision) Standing in a line. Are theywaiting for me?

Alphonse: I weep for your lost brothers. Year after year, I host a private funeral. But let us notthink of the past. You are alive, and I cannot begin to count the number of father and sonactivities. Now! Let us go, before anyone sees you. (Pauses. Silently) I built some balloons forour excursions.

    Johnny: Thanks Alphonse. Papa.

Alphonse: (with a whimsical smile) Papa Alphonse.

    Johnny: I am..Johnny.

Alphonse: (patting Johnny on the back) The legends say a treasure cove lies on the east. (Theyexit)

    (The chemist enters)

Alphonse: Im sorry Jebediah, but I havent seen that machine since you shot him dead. Youdont even know his name. (Dramatic pause) Johnny.

Alphonse: Everything, everybody, and all the elements, have names for us to call them. But thenameless! Oh yes, there are elements too awesome to be named. And if we try, they will destroyus.

Alphonse: What speech would I give? Who would listen? Leave me where I am. What more doI need?

    (The chemist begins to exit)

Alphonse: I have work to do. Or do you want to practice your speech on me? Ive heard it every

year. perhaps one waltz you could change a few words here and there, for varietys sake. (The chemist looks around and sees nobody)

Alphonse: It seems we are alone. Do you think we should ask someone with eyesight farther thanmine? Or lets bring in the blind.

Alphonse: The balloons arent ready. Its a great risk.

Alphonse: I will make the proper inspections. There is one balloon that can be used, but

Alphonse: Nothing. If you are serious about escaping, there is nothing wrong. While you andyour family waltz, Ill fasten the balloon to the garden gates. On the west, beside the coast.

    Alphonse: Logan.

Alphonse: Jebediah youve done enough for me, lifetimes ago. Last night, did you dream again?

Alponse: Tell me Jebediah, Do your dreams transport you to Montgomery?

Alphonse: To forget an entire life, a dream to remind youMy dreams are so powerful. thereis no doubt..Even awake, moments come back to me, how you held your gun, the card -games.

Alphonse: Listen to me Jebediah. We lived together before. We brought law and order to thefrontier. I, Doc Wayne, and you, Logan, the eternal Cowboy.

Chemist: So are my dreams. Logan, Ill get you out of here. And I swear, Ill kill what I shouldhave let die long ag o.

Chemist: The son cannot destroy his creator, no, that is against nature, only I can right the

cycles..to break the cycle and form another cycle.more just than the last.

Chemist: Ill see you tonight Logan. Clayton, the baddest man in the west, couldnt shoot usdown. No machine will defeat us, oh no. Not even one I built.

(The chemist exits. Jebediah spends the next moments, continuing to clean the floors, but with ahopeful vigor. Johnny enters)

Chemist: I did. That man (pointing to the Grandfather) made me build him this robot. Thishappened because of him. I will play with the tools of life and death no more!

(On the side, Corinthia feels the muscles of both Aesop and Alexander)Alphonse: The amulet never existed. It was a lie.

Chemist: One of two good men. Cant forget a mans sidekick. Doc Wayne! Now where wasI..( Places the amulet over Aesops chest. Great -great-great grandfather Obadiah enters)Right over here, quickly! (Obadiah holds himself over the amulet) Do you feel it!? Be reborn!

Chemist: Good. You are here again. I wont be the only who can see you, not anymore. Youshould pay more attention to how you look.

Chemist: Never mind. Say, I have a story for you.

Chemist: Did OlJeptha invent every story ? Get that guy out of your head. No, this a classic, certifiable, Alphonse story. It takes place in the wild west town of Montgomery, where law andlawlessness clashed in constant battle. (Pauses) You know what son, I think were going to havemore fun than either of us have had in our lives, looking for treasure. I brought my map. And Ihope you brought your adventuring cap.

Chemist: Ah yes. The story. Two valiant men, Logan, hero of the west, and his pal Doc Waynesought to defend the town of Montgomery from the villainous gunslinger Clayton and his gangof thieves..

They exit. Empty stage. Lights off.
