Stingray is Back!!!

We are delighted that Stingray Nightclub

for people with learning disabilities started

again this month at our new venue:

The Spirit Bar, 13 Park End St, Oxford OX1

1HH.

Our first night in the new club was

amazing, lots of people turned out, the

music was great and we all had a great

time! We even sang Happy Birthday to our

trustee, Ben.

Kathy said “stingray is really great, I am

glad everyone has come back! I hope

everyone has an amazing time here.”

Come to the next Stingray on Tuesday 1st

October from 6:30—9:30pm

Learning Disability Pride Week

In June, we celebrated Learning Disability Pride

week and had a photo exhibition of members

telling us what they are proud of.

Our members were proud of

many amazing achievements.

For example Jeremy said:

“I am proud because I have

achieved a relationship and I

have learnt to travel on the bus

on my own.”

A week of Protests! In June our Champions took part in a

week of national protests to help get

people with learning disabilities out of

long-stay hospitals and seclusion.

The Champions

designed protest

banners and went to London for 4 days to protest.

Shaun said “it was great to see so many groups

coming together to make a difference.”

Mate Crime Training

Our Power Up team have been working

hard on making a film about mate crime

and how to protect yourself from it. They will

be showing the film and delivering training

at all the groups over the next few months!

Pioneers Research

Several members of the Power Up team

have also been doing research into

people with learning disabilities in the First

World War.

Ruby and Josh, are working with Lisa and

Dr Lee Humber to find out about people in

the past and see what role learning

disabilities had in the war.

day at Henley Regatta for the Disabled, and an open top bus tour

in Oxford.

Travel Buddy News

We have received funding from Great Western Railway to deliver

training to all of our groups on how to travel

safely on the train.

This training will be delivered by our

Power Up officer Ed and two trainers.

Make sure you go to your local

self-advocacy group to get this useful
