I am Doresha Beasley a senior at Lancaster High School. I have been involved with the

“Tiger” Marching Band since my sophomore year in 2009. The band has altered my

character a lot and has showed me the better things of life. Being involved with the band

only created a better person for me and gave me a chance to demonstrate the perfect

determination to be a better woman.

In the spring of 2009 I was inducted into the National Honors Society. By being inducted

into this highly ranked institution it made me open my eyes to how my school recognizes

me. Also it showed me that my grades are really exceptional among my peers. This

opportunity showed me that I should try to achieve for more than the standards.

Being in both Band and National Honors Society gave me all of my characteristics to

pursuing my education for college. My journey in high school could have been altered

dramatically if these steps were not taken seriously.

I have encountered various obstacles because of the mistakes I have committed in my

past. Instead of dwelling on the mistakes I made I decided to take those mistakes as a life

lesson and just learn from them. By being an exceptional person within the National

Honors Society the mistake I had made could jeopardize my chances to still be apart of

this distinguish group.

With learning from my mistakes came great leadership responsibilities. Being a section

leader and drill sergeant is a great position to have with in the band it shows that

something about you is higher among the rest of your peers. Having such leadership

skills over looks any mistakes I have committed.

Helping throughout the school for what ever is needed. Rather it being cleaning up with

the janitors in rooms or getting the auditorium ready for school events. Even helping

teachers with their down falls, or just having my presents among individuals who really

need to be uplifted. I am striving to become an intelligent black woman with a mind set to

strive for nothing but the best.

I have decided to further my knowledge and perseverance to Grambling State University.

While being enrolled as a freshman I plan on being apart of the “World Fame” Marching

Band. The major I plan on exploring are Computer Science, but even double majoring is

an option for me with Accounting. I plan to further my education and make sure I will

become the best person I can, and also giving back to the community that helped shape

me for my excellence.
