ResultsIn there pond there are fish, tadpoles, frogs, pond skaters.

All about fish•A fish is an animal which lives and breathes in water. All fish are vertebrates (have a backbone) and all breathe through gills and have fins and scales. Fish have been on the earth for more than 500 million years.

•Fish are cold-blooded, which means their inside body temperature changes as the surrounding temperature changes. 

•40% of all fish species inhabit fresh water, yet less than .01% of the earth's water is fresh water.  Tropical fish are one of the most popular pets.

Grandma and Grandma’sfish

• The fish lay eggs every year.

• In my Grandma and Grandpa’s pond there are many goldfish and shubumpkin.

• They are fed twice a day with special fish flakes and floating food sticks. They also eat the plants that grow in the pond.

  

All about frogs

Frogs are members of the animal group called Amphibia.Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrate animals. They are different to reptiles as they lack scales and generally return to water to breed.

Tree frogs, like this White-lipped Tree frog have sucker-like adhesive disks, or Sticky pads, which aid in climbing, on the tips of the fingers and toes. This type of frog is not found in my grandma + grandpas pond!

Frogs have to watch out for all kinds of enemies in the wild. There are a wide variety of frog predators. Animals that eat frogs for snacks include snakes, lizards, birds, and various small animals like hedgehogs. Even under water frogs can’t be safe from hungry sharp toothed fish, swimming mammals like water shrews, and even diving birds!

A frogs life cycle

• A pond skater is a thin dark brown or grey insect with round eyes that project from the sides of its head. The body and legs are covered in thick velvety hairs, which stop the pond skater from falling through the surface of the water.

• They are common in Britain and Europe.

• Pond skaters are about 20mm long

• These insects live in ponds and areas of still water.

• They feed on a diet of insects.
