My design strengths :Composition :Illustration :A sense of layout Editorial Spreads: Book design: Illustratio ns: Areas that appeal to me... :Illustration :Layout design :Print Which would lead on to :Magazine design :Book covers :Brochures :Freelance illustration :Publication design :Label design Working in a design collective/ partnership: Another option I would like to pursue is to collaborate with fellow designers or friends who are studying graphic design and create a collective, therefore being self employed and not working not for a corporation, which is something I would prefer to do. Working self employed in a collective or partnership enables you to create as many different styles of design you want, whether it be illustration, editorial, branding etc. One company that has inspired me to do this is called This Is Studio, a graphic design collective which a friend of mine and his two friends started up after graduating, based in East Londono.uk So how do I plan to go about this? :Build up my portfolio :Create a better C.V. :Research companies that Id like to work for :Contact these companies :Send my work out :Build a website showcasing my work :Apply for jobs But what if I dont find anything straight away? PLAN B :Work part time and continue designing in my spare time to build up my portfolio - still continue to look for jobs :Try and build up contacts in the industry :Travel to Canada to work for 6 months So my short term plans ARE :GRADUATE! :Organise my portfolio :Complete my C.V. and covering letter :Start looking at companies to work for :Be prepared to do work experience for free My C.V.: And my long term plans ARE :Go to work in Canada for 6 months :Hopefully find work out there :Start looking for a design job when I come back :Apply to do an MA in graphic design if I have no luck finding a job!
