History with Data: from an undergraduate student, horticulture scientist perspective

The effect of low level electromagnetic fields on seed growth

Scientific Research Plan

Experiment: • 5 groups of 100 phaseolus vulgaris seeds• 20 seeds of each group potted in one gallon pots• 80 seeds of group petri dish

• Home control• Travel control• SC1= stone chamber 30 minutes• SC2= stone chamber 70 minutes• CC1= corbelled chamber 70 minutes

Data Collection

• Germination Rate• Shoot Height• Leaf Area Index• Dry Weight

Data Analysis

Page 3: My Data Entity

• Positively charged ions sink to the floor• Negatively charged ions rise• Separation of charges creates electromagnetic pulsing within the airspace• Pulsing is measure by Electrostatic voltmeter

CC1: Corbelled Chamber

History with Data: from a working horticulture scientist perspective

Trial Garden Research

• Data collection and recording• Data input: Access versus Excel • Plant Ratings• Type of data:

* genus, species, cultivar, source, common name, unique ID, botanical family* flower date* height (multiple data points)* spread* flower color* foliage color

Future with Data: concepts into practice

Understanding of data lifecycle components, lacking some applications

• Look forward to: – format modification– file conversions– data migration– further data description– data ingestion– data appraisal– data sharing, access, and reuse techniques– data encoding
