    well as a printer, mouse, monitor and so on areconnected by cables. Cable give us a very big problem.Bluetooth essentially aims to fix this, it is a cable-replacement technology

    What is Bluetooth?y Bluetooth is a wireless technology which allows

    'personal area networking' , a technology designed to

    allow connection of portable devices in a wire-freemanner. It can connect upto 100m between mobilephones, PCs and accessories such as headsets etc.

    why it is called Bluetoothy The developers of this wireless technology first used

    the name "Bluetooth" as a code name, but as time past,

    the name stuck.The Bluetooth name came from the10th century Danish King Harald Bluetooth.

    y The founders of the Bluetooth felt the name wasfitting because:

    1. first developed in Scandinavia.2. Bluetooth technology is able to unite different

    industries .

    Where Did the Logo Come From?

    y AScandinavian firm originally designed the logo at thetime the SIG (Special Interest group) was formally

    introduced to the public. Keeping to the same origin asthe Bluetooth name, the logo unites the Runicalphabetic characters "H", which looks similar to anasterisk, and a "B", which are the initials for HaraldBluetooth.

    y In 1998 Intel, Ericsson, IBM, Nokia and Toshiba

    formed the Bluetooth Special Interest Groupy The first version was released July 1999.

    y December 1999 add 3coms Microsoft, Lucent andMotorola.

    y To date 800 companies world wide are member of theBluetooth SIG.

    Computer requirementsy APersonal computer that does not embedded

    Bluetooth. It can be used with a Bluetooth adapter or

    "dongle" that will enable the PC to communicate withother Bluetooth devices (such as mobile phones,mouse and keyboards). While some desktopcomputers and most recent laptops come with a built-in Bluetooth facility , others will require an externalone in the form of a dongle.

    y Data rate is slow.

    y Security is a very key aspect to the Bluetoothspecification.

    y Bluetooth still remain for short range wireless .
