The Muttart Conservatory is a horticultural display garden that brings together a collection of

plants fro a diverse range of cliatic conditions. Muttart Conservatory !as designed in theearly "#$0%s by architect &eter 'eing!ay. 'e had visioned to cobine the practical

re(uireents for plant height !ith a stri)ing visual effect. The pyraids officially opened in

*epteber "#$+ in Edonton, Alberta Canada, but the ending of construction cae !hen the

3,$00 s(uare eter greenhouse cople- !as copleted in "#0. The si- support greenhouses

are connected to the ain conservatory by eans of a tunnel. The functions of these

greenhouses are to eet the deands for foliage and glo!ering plant aterial for the displaypyraids. They also supply the gift shop, civic contracts, and the bedding plant re(uireents for

civic par)s.

The /ladys and Merrill Muttart oundation donated half of the 12 illion construction cost, !ith

the City of Edonton and the &rovince of Alberta providing the balance.

Through the designing of the four pyraids, they feature a sall s)ylight located over the CentreCourt atriu area. Each display pyraid aintains uni(ue environental conditions to eet the

needs of the plants housed !ithin.

The Muttart Conservatory !as ore than ust a botanic garden it hosts any of the &rovidences

preier floral sho!s, educational progras for children, horticultural courses for adults and

continues as a very popular site for !eddings, ban(uets and business functions.

Building 4se 5&resently6The four glass pyraids of the Muttart Conservatory invite visitors

to enoy the different floral !orlds !ithin. The uni(ue indoor gardenbrings together a collection of plants fro a diverse range of cliatic

conditions. The four pavilions, the Tropical, Arid, Teperate, and *ho!

pavilions display ore than $00 species of plants, each in uni(ue

cliatic and environental conditions. The Tropical pyraid housesungle7li)e gro!th in high huidity. 8t contains one of 9orth Aerica%s

largest collections of orchid species. The Arid pyraid !ith its desert

conditions features cacti, the Teperate pavilion%s rainforest changes

!ith the seasons. The *ho! pavilion features seasonal floral e-hibits.

The Muttart offers rental options for !eddings, eetings, and other

special events. There is a gift shop, an art gallery, and a /ouret

/oodies Caf:. They also have plant sales and education tours for school

)ids.

Center Court is conveniently located in the center of the

pavilions providing access into everything. The store

shops and pavilions surround the Center Court giving a

variety of places to choose fro in your desiredsurrounding. There is one entry!ay into the pyraids.

entrance. Additional e-its besides the place to entrance

to )eep all un!anted personnel out. The greenhouse is off

liits to the public.
