A MESSAGE FROM PTO

At our February meeting on Wednesday, February 4, we had a panel of seniors discuss

their experience with the college application process. They provided a completely

different perspective from the programs they selected. Our February meeting with the

seniors and the upcoming March meeting with Excel Edge, will give parents and

students much needed information about the college application process.

Thank you to Kayla Bales, Ryan Kritzer, Adam Kulam, and Nicki Smith for giving up

an evening of their time to provide a student’s point of view regarding the application

process. They shared information about in state, out of state, selective schools,

scholarships, sports in college, early decision/early action, college visits and a number

of other personal experiences they had during their college search.

For our March meeting, please join us at 7:00 p.m. After a brief business meeting we

will have a presentation by Casey Tebo, Associate Director of ExcelEdge. Casey will

discuss standardized exams -- PSAT, SAT and ACT --which MHS students will take as

sophomores and juniors. He will highlight upcoming revisions to the PSAT and SAT

that will debut in 2015 and 2016. Casey also will recommend a timetable for testing and

preparing for the exams. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

Students are invited to attend this meeting. We hope to see you there!

Reality Store is just around the corner- Wednesday, April 8 to be exact. Please contact

Debby Flahaven at 838-7638, or email at queendlcf@aol.com if you can help that day.

Freshmen parents will be especially impressed with this dose of future reality that their

children receive. Many parents volunteer year after year because they are impressed

with the program and they enjoy the day.

ATHLETIC NEWS

WINTER BANQUET Another season will be ending and the winter sports banquet

will be held in the food court at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March

10, 2015 for boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, dance

team, boys and girls swimming and wrestling.

Three tickets will be given to each athlete for themselves and

their parents. Additional tickets may be purchased in the

athletic office for $5.00 per person.

The athletic department will provide the main dish and

beverage. The following athletes are asked to please bring a

covered side dish to serve ten.

GUIDANCE

SCHEDULING By the end of March, all students will have met with their

counselor to request classes for the 2015-2016 school year.

Changes to requests can be made through Friday, March 20,

2015. Please remember that students/parents may not ask for

specific teachers, specific lunch periods, or to have classes

during certain times of the day. Due to scheduling conflicts,

students might have to select an alternate elective course than

they originally requested.

COLLEGE ENTRANCE TESTS Munster High School will offer the ACT college entrance test

on Saturday, April 18th

The registration deadline for this exam

is Friday, March 13th

. Students must upload a recent photo

and be prepared to pay online. Go to www.actstudent.org to

create an account and register.

The SAT college entrance test will be offered on two separate

dates. The first offering is Saturday, March 14th

and the

second date is Saturday, May 2nd,

with a registration deadline

of Friday, April 6th

MUNSTER HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL 2015

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. DATES

All Classes will be held Monday-Thursday. NO FRIDAY CLASSES

Condensed classes begin Monday, June 8, 2015, and end Thursday, July 2, 2015.

Regular classes begin Monday, June 8, 2015, and end Friday, July 16, 2015.

2. TIMES: Please note the start time and end time for 2015

Condensed – 7:15 a.m. – 12:50 p.m.

Regular – Session #1 7:15 a.m. - 10:20 a.m. Session #2 10:50 a.m. – 1:55 p.m.

3. REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER SCHOOL ENROLLMENT

Enrollment for Summer School classes will occur only at Munster High School from March 31 through April 20, 2015, in Student Services. Enter through door A; hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In order to complete the enrollment process, you will need to pay in full. If a student fails a second semester course, he or she will be allowed to register for make-up classes through June 2, 2015.

5. ATTENDANCE: Absences and Tardies

CONDENSED CLASSES – To receive credit during summer school, a student may not have more than three (3) attendance infractions. An absence from class and/or a tardy to class is considered an infraction. Of these three infractions, only one (1) can be an absence. At the second absence, the student will be dropped from the class. If a student reaches four (4) infractions, he or she will also be dropped from the class. A student is absent if he/she misses more than thirty (30) minutes of the class; less than thirty minutes will be considered a tardy.

REGULAR CLASSES – To receive credit during summer school, a student may not have more than four (4) attendance infractions. An absence from class and/or a tardy to class is considered an infraction. Of these four infractions, only two (2) can be absences. At the third absence, the student will be dropped from the class. If a student reaches five (5) infractions, he or she will also be dropped from the class. A student is absent if he/she misses more than twenty (20) minutes of class; less than twenty minutes will be considered a tardy.

NOTE: 1. There is no need to call off your son/daughter when absent or tardy. There are no differences

between unexcused, excused absence and/or tardies during summer school. 2. A student who is removed or withdraws from a summer school class will not receive credit for the

course.

6. REPORT CARDS:

Condensed Classes – Students will receive one report card, available for pick up in Student Services, starting July 13, 2015. If not picked up during this time, they will be available at the 2015-2016 registration. REPORT CARDS WILL NOT BE MAILED. Regular Classes – Students will receive one report card, available for pick up in Student Services from July 20 – July 31, 2015. If not picked up during this time, they will be available at the 2015-2016 registration. REPORT CARDS WILL NOT BE MAILED.

7. REFUNDS: Money for summer school courses is NOT refundable if a student drops a class or is removed from a class on or after June 8, 2015.

8. RULES AND REGULATIONS

All rules and regulations for the regular school year are also in effect for summer school; however discipline for summer school will consist of warnings and/or removal from summer school. The following rules apply specifically to summer school: SMOKING: Automatic drop from summer school SHOES: Students are not to go without foot apparel

in the building for obvious health and safety reasons. Those who persist in violating this rule will be warned and then dropped from the class.

DRESS: Students who are inappropriately dressed

for school will be sent home to change clothes. The time missed will count as an absence.

BREAKS: During breaks and before classes begin,

students may only be in the Food Court or Commons. STUDENTS MAY NOT TAKE food or drinks into the classrooms or carpeted areas.

PARKING: Students are not allowed to park in teacher

parking lots. INSUBORDINATION: Automatic drop from summer

school
