“Hello,” because they are surprised from thefriendly greeting they just received. As that personwalks the rest of their path with a content smile ontheir face, they continue the tradition by welcomingsomeone new they meet on their walk. Purdue’s

“Hello Walk” is an unknown tradition that resemblesthe openness and friendliness we portray as students.the openness and friendliness we portray as students.This tradition is the first of many traditions at Purduethat you will do during your journey as a Boilermaker.

since 1889. It’s Indiana's largest collegiate daily newspa-per. This independent college newspaper published by per. So sit down, relax, grab The Exponent and read what is going on in your community! It is a likely tradition read by all and a great way to

start your first phase at Purdue.

Through your lifespan at Purdue, you are going to run into exams, and a lot of them. There is one tra-dition at Purdue that sticks out more than others that will help guide you to a better performance. That is the nose of Abraham Lincoln. Located in the north wing of the Memorial Union, the statue awaits for nervous college students with his worn down, golden nose. It is said that before any important golden nose. It is said that before any important mission whether it be an exam, an interview or an important intermural sports game you have to win, you can rub his nose for some extra boost of motiva-tion and pinch of luck. What is noticeably clear as you walk by is his bright, golden nose that sticks out dramatically due to all his anxious visitors. I know I

have found myself here a few times myself.

Your stomach is growling, you’re craving a burger, and you just got done taking a rough exam. What do you do? Step back into the past; locate your inner 50’s spirit and come on down to Pappy’s (literally because it is lo-cated in the basement of Purdue’s Memorial Union!)

Pappy’s Sweet Shop has been serving hungry customers, like me, since 1927. Filled with specialty diner quality food like ice cream, burgers and pork chop sandwiches it food like ice cream, burgers and pork chop sandwiches it will sure fill anyone’s empty stomach. You can also treat yourself with soda fountain creations such as cones,

shakes, malts and sundaes. This Purdue hot-spot restau-rant isn’t only used for dining, but many come to study and indulge in a late night snack. You know you got one

problem solved, you’re going to Pappy’s!

Yummy, yummy in my tummy

Not into the whole diner scene? Well, when you come to Purdue, you know you are going to get fed, and fed well. Purdue is famous for their dining courts and one food item in particular is their Thanksgiving Dinner. Students go crazy for this every once and awhile treat. During this time, the cooks at the dining courts will prepare all the famous Thanksgiving fix-ins. This includes the whole nine yards;

stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping, gravy, and of course turkey. Make sure to check all the dining court schedules because you don’t want to pass up on this once and a lifetime opportunity! It’s pretty hard to

miss when the line goes outside the doors.

Gobble, Gobble

He shoots, he scores!Right around the corner, after Thanksgiving, is Basketball season and it is one intense time for boilermaker students. You’re in the stands, anxiously waiting for the last hopeful bucket to win the game. One of our own boilermakers is on the court dribbling the basketball. He puts a hand in the air initiating a sign for a play while dribbling powerfully with the other. Players scatter forcefully, running in and out of the other teams’ defenders. Finally, a teammate breaks free the other teams’ defenders. Finally, a teammate breaks free and is open for the shot. The time ticks down with five sec-onds to go on the shot clock. The player jumps in the air, pushes the ball forward with a beautiful motion, and you hear a swoosh from the ball going into the basket; we score, we win. Everyone is ecstatic and is frantically jumping in the stands. This is Boilermaker Basketball, an important

tradition to all students.

You’ve gone to countless sporting events and your senior year is right around the corner. It has long been awaited throughout your countless hours of

studying and dedication towards your desired major. One piece of information though students like to look past is the mysterious Bell Tower. Completed in

1995, the Bell Tower is a great reminder for all busy students. Unfortunately, what most students don’t students. Unfortunately, what most students don’t know, because I see them walk under it every day, is that supposedly the seal under the Bell Tower is cursed. This curse states that if anyone who walks under the tower will not graduate in four years. Let this be a reminder to all that the next time you walk by, don’t walk under, walk around. This tradition at

Ding, dong. Ding, dong

If you mastered not walking under the Bell Tower, then you probably, finally made it to graduation. But before you gradu-

ate you must partake in a tradition that is done by all student’s that involves the fountains of Purdue. There are two stunning fountains located on campus, the Engineering Foun-tain made in 1989 and the Loeb Fountain, built in 1959. As tradition states, you first run through the Engineering fountain and make your way towards the Loeb fountain, running

through it as well. This tradition usually is done at your begin-ning and ending duration stay here at Purdue. Make sure you bring some clothes worth getting wet because this will be the last stop of traditions before you move on into the real world.
