About the ACE Program Director Kyle Kakuno has been involved in theatre for over 30 years as an actor, writer, director and producer. He appeared in over 100 theatrical productions during his acting career including tours of China, Japan and a residency at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in Washington D.C. He won numerous awards as an actor with the Honolulu eatre For Youth and appeared in multiple television shows and commercials and, in 1994, was featured in the Miramax film “Pic- ture Bride”. As artistic director of the Saint Louis Center For e Arts, he has brought to the stage such musicals as “Chicago”, “Little Shop of Horrors”, and “Disney’s Beauty and e Beast”. He has four State-wide premieres to his direct- ing credits, introducing Hawaii audiences to “Footloose” in 2002, “Aida” in 2005, “Rent: School Edition” in 2008 and “In e Heights” in 2013. He took SLCA’s “Aida” to Scotland in 2005 and garnered international recognition at the Edin- burgh Fringe Festival. Acting For Stage & ScreenActing for Stage & Screen is an intensive program for students interested in exploring the creative process and approach to character development and learning the use of body, voice and imagination in the craft of acting. Focusing on guideposts utilized by professional actors, students will develop skills in acting, analyzing script. and playing roles for theatre, film and television. Also includes tips on auditioning for parts and get-ting an agent to represent you. There will be a performance at the end of the semester.

Musical Theatre Workshop

musical Theatre Workshop is designed to teach the students how to use the three dis-ciplines of acting, singing and dancing into the telling of a story. Focusing on character development and the utilization of body, voice and imagination, this class teaches young actors how to work in an ensemble. Also, lessons on preparing for an audition. There will be a performance at the end of the semester.
