A staff is more than just lines and spaces.  A staff

has a clef sign, time signature, bar lines,

measures, notes,key signature, ledger lines, notes, rests, and

lots of other stuff.

Treble ClefTreble Clef / G Clef

Names the second line: Line G.Steps to drawing the treble clef:1. Draw a vertical line from top to

bottom.2. Go to the top of the line and

make a loop to the fourth line.3. Cross the line and go to line 1.4. Wrap around line 2.

Clef used for high register instruments: Piano, Violin, Flute, Guitar, Recorder, Piccolo.

Ledger LinesNotes written above or below the staff are called ledger lines. Ledger lines are

short lines use only when notes are written outside of the five lines.

Time SignatureTime signatures tell you how many

beats and what kind of notes per measure there are.

The top number tells you how many beats per measure.

The bottom tells you that the quarter note ( ) equals 1 beat.

Measures and Bar lines• Beats divide the staff into measures. • Bar lines show the beginning and ending of each measure.
