• The instrument, and your history with it, as the connecting medium
The focus area
• Diversity of chosen works is useful
• Intention in working with chosen works – what are you looking for? What creative relationship do you want to explore? How will this feed your creative work?
• eg. referencing, embedding, quotation, homage, parody, antithesis, synthesis
Practicalities
• Working routine
• Organisation, documentation
• Time management – defined stages for exploring, drafting, refining, rehearsing, performing
• Who are you writing for?
• What performance situation? When?
Synthesis
• Identifying and connecting influences
• Absorbing elements of chosen works in an idiosyncratic way
• Observing and identifying significant micro/macrostructures. Developing a symbolic language
