    INVESTIGATION MOVIE MUSIC

    1. Is your composition going to be built around conveying:a. Mood and atmosphereb. Characterc. An emotiond. A time and settinge. A combination of these

    2. Explain why and how you hope to achieve thisI think that my composition is going to be built around the mood and atmosphere and also

the time and setting. I think that for this video the mood is easy to pick up, therefore, it will

easy for the song to be based on those two aspects. Also, the mood doesn't change much

which mean that the theme can then be repeated. The time and setting only changes twice,

therefore, a lot of the theme in the first scene can be repeated then changed a little in order

to fit in with the second theme.

    3. Choose some of the musical elements and discuss how you plan to use them in your workThe musical elements that I think I will be using in my composition is dynamics. This because

the dynamics of the different instruments can change how the music sounds overall. The

tension can also be built up with the dynamics. We can build up the tension by using soft

dynamics at first and then bringing the dynamics up and making it louder and louder. Another

musical element that I will be focusing on is the texture of the music. The textures is how

many instruments were used in the composition. By changing the texture, we are changing the

overall sound of the song. If there are more instruments, it will sound as if there is a lot of

things going on at the same time which is good for when we are building up lots of tension.

    Falling down scenes:

    Alice and the wonderland -

There were no instruments that were playing a descending line. In the falling scene the main

melody is repeated over and over again. I think that in my piece I should also repeat the main

melody. There were different sound effects as well that was used in this scene. For example; when

she spins, there was a scream and for the part when the piano comes close to her, there is a

gonzola played on piano that fits with the pianos action perfectly. I think that the little details and

the little sound effect really add to the overall sound of the song and I think that it makes it sound

better because there is more action going in. I think that I can incorporate this with my own

composition by first annotating the different hi points and then use different instruments or change

the sound of an instrument so that when someone dramatic happens it will be emphasized by the

different sound that is put in.

    Mission Impossible -

Before the main character fell, there was dramatic music that was played. Mostly the

instruments were orchestral such as the violin and the viola. Most of the instruments were string

instruments, but there were some bass instruments as well such as the tuba, double bass and the

cello. I think that the bass instruments add to the suspense and the tension. When the main

character actually falls, there is complete silence. It was a calm fall unlike the falling scene in my

video. I think that this is the opposite of what I need to do, but I should use the first section of the

mission impossible video as a guide for my video.

    Inception -

The inception song is very tense. The overall mood of this song is very tense. There are lots

of low sounds that are coming from bass instruments. I think that this piece is a very orchestral

based piece as well. The instruments are mainly all orchestral instruments. I can incorporate this

with my piece by using the orchestral instruments as well because I think that I can create lots I'd

different moods with the orchestral instruments. Also, I think that lot so sounds can be createdthought he use of the instruments. Dynamics was also a big concept that was used I this piece.

There were parts that were really quiet and then really loud. I think that adding the dynamics is a

way creating texture in the song as well. Adding instruments can also change the texture, but playing

with the dynamics can also help.
