Music has an emotional link with the characters

The lyrics “I'll paint it on the walls'Cause I'm the one that fallsI'll never fight againAnd this is how it ends” show a sign of strength and change in the song. These coincide with a time in the video where the main character decides to stop drinking and throws away his alcohol. The character appears to feel strong and knows he is doing the right thing.

This is similar to Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’ video. The lyrics “And I just can't keep living this waySo starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage in” coincide at a point in the video where the main character feels strong and breaks his barriers down.

The video can tell a story My video only tells the story of the

life of a young male who has problems with drinking. His problems lead him to have a nightmare in which his excessive drinking results in him carrying out disastrous actions, losing his best friend and having a confrontation at his college that leads him to severely injuring a colleague. When he wakes up from the nightmare he decides he needs to change.

Another video that tells a story is Ed Sheeran’s ‘A Team’ which follows the story of a homeless girl addicted to drugs and fuels this addiction through prostitution.

The visuals are linked with the lyrics in terms of subject matter and is not too

literalAt this point in the video the lyrics “I'll paint it on the walls'Cause I'm the one that falls” plays in the song. At this point, the main character is not shown as telling the whole world he is going to quit excessive drinking, however, he is deciding to change and this is the message that the lyrics at this point of the song is trying to convey.

This is also evident in Bruno Mars’ video ‘Grenade’. During the chorus of the we hear the lyrics “I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)”. In the video the main character/performer is not shown actually catching a grenade. It is only emphasizing the subject matter of the main character doing anything for this girl.

The music creates a tempo for editing

The tempo of my chosen song is generally fast. Throughout the video I have many cuts to fit with the fast drums of the music. For example, between10-24 seconds into my video I have input 8 cuts and this was only for the waking up scene.

Another example is, at 1:27s of my video there is cut between the short scene of the main character coming out of the car.

This coincided with the burst extremely fast drums in the music.

Even though I put a couple of slow motion shots in my video these were only done so to fit with the lyrics.

The tempo of the music determining the tempo for the editing is evident in Chase and Status’ video ‘Time’. At 56 seconds the song starts to speed up as it reaches the chorus, at the same time there are more cuts between the scenes which accompany the increase in speed of the song.

The video displays a particular culture/lifestyle through the mise en

sceneMy video displays the lazy lifestyle of a binge drinker and this is displayed through the mise en scene.

The main character’s room is a mess with unarranged clothes and random objects clumped together.

Alcohol placed in various places in the room show signs of binge drinking.

This is similar of Odd Future’s video ‘(NY) Ned Flander’. The mise en scene displays an unhealthy, unwelcome lifestyle by the setting being a mess.
