WestMAC Music Shop
West Moreton Anglican College has established the WestMAC Music Shop for the convenience of students and
parents. The shop operates through Music Reception from 7.30am to 3.30pm on school days. Items can be
purchased at Music Reception with either cash or EFTPOS. A current Price List may be viewed in Parent Lounge.
Individual Music Tuition
West Moreton Anglican College (WestMAC) offers individual instruction in singing, most orchestral and band
instruments, piano, guitar, bagpipes and music theory. The conditions of tuition are as follows:
• Years Prep to 5 have a fixed lesson time each week. Lessons for Years 6 to 12 that occur in class-time are
rotated weekly so that students do not miss the same subject consecutively. Before and after school lessons
may also be available in consultation with the relevant instrumental teacher.
• If a student wishes to discontinue lessons during the school year, notice should be given towards the end of
a school term. Where notification of withdrawal has not been given by the end of a term, the student will be
expected to pay for the new term, even if he/she does not wish to take the lessons
• Small group instruction may be available in certain circumstances depending on the recommendation of the
instructor.
• The cost is $37.00 per half-hour (plus Goods & Services Tax, if applicable) and is payable in advance at
the commencement of each term. Beginner groups may consist of two to four students and has an
associated minimum group lesson fee of $47 per half hour (eg two students pay $23.50 each; three students
$16 or four students $12). Fees are determined in accordance with the Music Teachers' Association of
Queensland guidelines (www.mtaq.org.au).
• Payment of fees for lessons given by visiting teachers will be a private arrangement between the parents
and the visiting teachers.
• Fees are payable in advance at the commencement of each term and within 14 days of receipt of the account.
A $25.00 late fee may be charged if payment is not made by the due date.
• Lessons missed by students without prior notice or adequate excuse will incur the cost of the missed lesson
and the Music Tutor will not be required to reschedule the lesson. Where a student misses a lesson as a
result of a school event (e.g. an excursion or an exam), the teacher will make up the lesson if the parent/
guardian notifies the teacher directly at least 24 hours in advance.
• All students must own a Music Study Diary which is used to record lesson notes, practice routine, theory and
communications with parents. Students must bring these diaries to each lesson. Music Study Diaries are
available from Music Reception at a cost of $7.00.
• A report on student progress will be provided at the conclusion of each semester.

account. To hire a college instrument, please go to https://www.wmac.com.au/news-events/music-notices/musical-
instrument-rental-agreement-2021 and complete the Musical Instrument Rental Agreement 2021.
Care, Storage and Insurance of Instruments
Musical instruments represent a significant investment for parents. Although the Music Department endeavours to
provide safe and secure storage for music instruments, the school's insurance does not cover student property,
which includes student owned instruments. Parents should make their own arrangements concerning insurance. The
school will not be held liable for lost or stolen instruments. The following guidelines relate to their care:
Clearly Named
• All personal instrument cases should be marked clearly in large letters on the outside and inside. Marking
the actual instrument is not recommended as permanent marking may decrease its resale value.
Instrument Lockers
• Instrument Lockers are available for use by Year 7 to 12 students. Students must see Mrs Kennedy at Music
Reception to arrange allocation of an appropriate locker. Only cellos and double basses are to be stored in
MD14.
Rental Instruments
• The Music Tuition Program relies on the annual recycling of College instruments. Instruments hired through
the "Instrument Hire Scheme" fall into one of three categories:
• Category 1 - On hire for a maximum of 12 months
o Flute, B-flat Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Violin (full-size only), Bass Guitar
• Category 2 - On permanent hire (until the student leaves year 12)
o Piccolo, Bass Flute, Bass Clarinet, Contra-Bass Clarinet, Alto Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, French
horn, Tuba, Double Bass, Bassoon.
• Category 3 - On permanent hire however, it would be greatly appreciated if parents could supply after
12 months:
o Tenor Saxophone, Oboe, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Viola, Cello.
It is the student and parent's responsibility to ensure that an instrument is purchased within these times. It is also the
student and parent’s responsibility to notify Music Reception if you are returning a hire instrument.

There is an expectation that all students involved in Private Music Tuition at the College participate in an ensemble
that suits the student’s level of ability and the College’s particular needs. Likewise, students participating in College
bands or small ensembles are required to be engaged in private tuition. Regular and punctual attendance is required
and students must comply with the terms and conditions of enrolment into the Extra-curricular Music program.
Student Responsibilities
As a member of a WestMAC music ensemble, you are required to adhere to the below terms and conditions at all
times:
• Attend all scheduled rehearsals for the ensemble in which you are involved. Note: this is a requirement for
eligibility for extra-curricular points. Please note that the only acceptable reason for absence from rehearsal
or performance is compulsory attendance at another official College activity.
• Attend rehearsal if you are at school, even if for health reasons you are unable to play/sing on a particular
day. Absence due to illness/injury will still be marked on the roll as ‘absent’ so students are encouraged to
attend all rehearsals unless they are infectious, in which case they should not be at school. Students can still
follow their part and note conductor expectations without actually playing or singing.
• Attend rehearsals during Exam Blocks. If you wish to be excused from rehearsal during exam block, you
must seek permission in advance from your ensemble director.
• Inform your ensemble director personally if illness or any other emergency precludes your participation in an
event, rehearsal or performance at the last minute.
• Prepare and learn your music outside rehearsals.
• Be seated and ready to begin rehearsal at the scheduled time.
• Bring your folder, music and a pencil to every rehearsal.
• Consult with your ensemble director if for any reason you believe you need to leave the ensemble. It is not
acceptable to simply stop attending without notice.
Friends of the Arts
The Friends of the Arts (FOTA) is a support group of parents who work together to support the different Arts
departments at the College – Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Art. For Music, FOTA aims to provide support through
catering for various music events and fundraising for particular music related equipment. Parents are encouraged to
volunteer to assist in these initiatives throughout 2021 by emailing FOTA via [email protected].
Examinations and Competitions
Individual participation in AMEB Examinations or competitions and Eisteddfods is encouraged and is entirely at the
discretion of the student and parent. Those students preparing for examinations or other solo performances will be
required to pay fees for the use of an accompanist, for the examination itself and any required rehearsals. Rates are
dependent on the Grade being taken.
Classroom Music
Year 3 String Immersion
Students in Year 3 will study the Violin for a Semester - these lessons are in addition to the usual Classroom Music
lesson each week and at no extra cost to parents. Students then have the option of continuing these studies through
our Private Tuition program. Selected students will be encouraged to continue with small group or private tuition on
strings for Year 4.
Year 5 and 6 Instrumental Program
All Year 5 and 6 students participate in our new Instrumental Program as part of their Curriculum studies. Students
then have the option of continuing these studies through our Private Tuition program. For more information, please
see the Instrumental Program Information Booklet.
Elective Music
From Years 9 to 12, students may choose to study music as a subject. It is interesting and challenging to both those
who have studied no music before and to those who are already significantly experienced.
Year 12 Music Extension
Year 12 elective music students have the opportunity to participate in a course called “Music Extension.” This course
enables students who have achieved a high level of skill in musicology, composing or performing to specialize and
make it contribute towards the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
Music Awards Showcase - Sunday 10 October 2021
Music Awards Showcase is a very special event in the life of the Music Department, at which ALL bands, choirs
and ensembles perform. Awards are also given to acknowledge the contribution that students have made to the
West Moreton Anglican College Music Department. Please mark this event in your diary
